I'm sure this is the wrong place to be asking a question, however I am having a hard time finding the right forum. I am looking for a way to approve certain updates through either a script or through SQL commands in the database. As nice as it would be to just approve every patch, I can only approve patches that have been tested not to interfere with our software. The problem comes in that we have 1000+ sites that have WSUS servers and we cannot link them to a master server, so we are manually having engineers approve patches on each of the WSUS boxes every month after we have tested and verified them. If I could make a utility/script that would approve the patches that we have tested every month, I could have it pushed out via our support network and save a lot of trouble. Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Hi Dave, glad to see an actual question!

First take a look at some of these items.

If you have a standard for computer groups then a SQL script could certainly be used, however I am not in the product ATM so I can't give you better guidance right now.

Totally off center, but linking the servers is your best bet and I understand that in an enterprise env typically the kind of island networking you are talking about is due to multi serverfarm security or remote offices with small amounts of clients.

I would say set up a chain anyways with an very specific IPsec tunnel between servers. It will take some firewall and layout planning as well as some UAT, but it will be worth it in the long run.

I've been waiting since 1985 to see the benefits promised by you microsoftians like you Manny "but it will be worth it in the long run.". Where exactly is the long run and how far do we yet have to go to reap these benefits? ISPEC tunnels?, firewall layout and planning - for god's sake manny - stopp spining the BS!!!

Would WSUS push a 80 meg file, and SMS push a 600 meg file?
