How can I control where the automatic updates are downloaded to?

It appears that they seem to create a temporary folder on the volume with the largest amount of available capacity.

Some of my volumes are special purpose and I do not want the update files even if they are temporary to be created there.

Is there a chance that the update files will actually have the temporary attributes set so that we can identify them as temporary files in the first place?

If I tighten the security the update process fails the install with an erro code 0x05.

Is there any way I can exclude a volume or volumes from being eligible to be used by the update process?

Thank you for your kind attention.

I applied SP1 yesterday and seemed to go just fine, thank you.

When will we be able to do automatic approvals based on some more variables? I'd like to be able to auto-appove something like the Malicious Software Removal tool or Root Certificates, but to do that I have to (unless I missed something) allow the entire category of updates it falls under to be auto-approved.

Thank you.

There is a nice tutorial on how to fix this here:

http://abc-solutions.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!F616727CACD12943!477.entry

ExecuteQuery: Failed to execute SQL query BACKUP DATABASE SUSDB to DISK=N'D:\WSUS\SUSDB.bak' (Error 0x80040E14)

I fixed that by granting the Everyone group full permissions to the D: drive (after the upgrade I removed the Everyone group).

Maybe a little better Q&A next time... Also - when are you going to get a TechNet forum??

Do us all a favor and rip this trouble down from the Microsoft site and put it back only when it actually works.

On the bright side, I've earned almost $20K alone attempting to fix this issue, only to be forced to reinstall WSUS from scratch.

On the not so bright side, the management who hired me is now looking at 3rd party tools to replace WSUS as they were already insecure to begin with and adding in this problem........................

In other words, GET YOUR STUFF TOGETHER MICROSOFT!!!!

ExecuteQuery: Failed to execute SQL query BACKUP DATABASE SUSDB to DISK=N'D:\WSUS\SUSDB.bak' (Error 0x80040E14)

but the issue was not permissions. Disk quotas was turned on and Network Service was limited to 3gb. The WSUS database was over 5gb so it always ran out of space.

So check your quota settings.
