I successfully installed and sycn’d my Windows Mobile 2005 phone with RC-2 and Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 a few days ago but now it’s stopped working. I’ve tried numerous times to uninstall then reinstall the driver and software but WMDC doesn’t think my phone is connected. In fact, Vista no longer sees my phone at all; the phone’s memory card no longer appears in “Computer”.

What could be preventing Vista seeing my phone? The only change I can think I’ve made to the OS is installing OneCare live.

I just un-installed Live OneCare and that fixed the problem. So for what ever reason OneCare prevented Vista RC-2 from "seeing" my phone; either durng a sync or as a device in "Computer".

I have the same problem here, and it's OneCare for me too.

It's the OneCare firewall that's preventing Syncing from working. I found a list of ports, somewhere on the web, that I poked holes for in the firewall and it's working for me, now.

Take a look at this thread for instructions:

Is syncing with Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts gonna be supported, or will i be forced to install Outlook ?

Windows Calendar and Windows Contact sync is currently not supported.  We are still evaluating what features will be supported for future releases.

HOW SOON until an RTM release?  I've been running the RTM Ultimate Vista 32 release with Ofc 2007 on a Dell E1505 2gzh Core 2 Duo, and Windows Mobile Device Center RC3 just will not sync ...  BUT4 this inability, and some VPN incompatibilities, I could use Vista in my work environment and enjoy it (aside from consistent IE7 freezes ... but FireFox 2.0 works great).

the LACK of Windows Mobile synchronization is the BIGGEST ACHILLES HEEL for Vista adoption by business at this time, IMHO.

I'm now using WMDC Beta 3 and it works fine with my HP iPAQ.

But I'm not able to sync devices via bluetooth, as I used to do with XP and ActiveSync 4.x.

This comment is for Ripper_X.  Bluetooth is supported with WMDC.  Below are the steps.  Let me know exactly what is not working for you after you try the following:

    1.       connect your device at least once via USB to your computer before attempting Bluetooth connectivity.  This installs the necessary driver components.

    2.       on PC’s WMDC Control Panel: select to connect via BT

    3.       on PC’s BT Control Panel: create an incoming COM port, and make the PC discoverable

    4.       on device, BT partnership (under the BT Settings) needs to show that your PC is enabled for the “ActiveSync” service

    5.       on device’s Activesync, select to connect via BT -> should see error (no PC setup for that)

    6.       on device’s BT wizard, search for a new device, setup partnership with PC, at the end you should see it as having an Activesync service published

    7.       Go back to device AS and launch “Connect via BT”

Please be generous: please make sync with Windows Calendar or Windows Contacts supported --- let those who need the advanced features of outlook to install outlook as necessary

I use a G5 at work and now seeing the iPhone and the complete package... I am really considering to switch all over to OS X given the completeness of their solutions and their fancy web-zooming & gesture interface...

I'm also keeping my eyes on the latest windows mobile & HTC
