O wow! time to try it out on my Ipaq.
I have installed it ok, but I dont get it - how do I actually make it synchronize with Windows Calendar, Windows Contacts? It shows that synchronization goes on ok, but no contacts and appointments actually transferred from mobile device to PC.
Also tried to create new contact in Windows Contacts, sync ok, but it does not appear on mobile device.
Am I missing something? All synchronizations are enabled in control panel.
Will you support SyncML in the future? : )
About time, and it even works!
Thank you, thank you thank you thank you!
Just a lil' bug report - when you click on 'view error log' in case of a sync error, nothing happens and instead it just goes back to normal view.
Downloaded it but WMDC doesn't open. I am using RC1 and haven't been able to sync over a month. Can you help? eakins@xtra.co.nz
eakins, if you've got any autoplay settings for your mobile device, try clearing those out. Also, try deleting your device and then plugging it back in, then double-click the Windows Mobile Device Center to actually kick off the installation. I'm running rc1 and was able to sync up just fine, but the installation of WMDC didn't seem to complete until after I had followed those steps.
Still some big bugs in here, some bits missing.
I just can't seem to find a place to actually place bug reports - anyone?
It crashed once for me (running RC2 with Mobile 2005 device) but otther than that pretty good. Took me a couple of plugs/unplugs to get it to initially work then a couple more to get it to save my password.
I THINK it only sync's with Outlook, not Windows Contacts & Calendar.
At least I can sync my phone again...yay!
James
clefmeister, thanks for the hints. Tried that and still can't get it to work. I then uninstalled the Windows Mobile Device Center and Driver Update programs from the installed programs list. I then tried the WHOS key registry update and ran wmupdate.msi. Now I get the following:
System.IO.FileLoadException: The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
at Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceManager.IForeman.StartFactory(Guid factory)
at Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceCenter.Program.Main()
When I try to rerun the drvupdate-x86.msi then it appears to start installing but never finish. I then go into Control Panel>Programs & Features and try to repair the Windows Mobile Device Center and Driver Update. The Windows Mobile Device Center appears to repair but the driver update wont.
Thoughts anyone about how to get it to work?
Hey lotech: The place to go is connect.microsoft.com to file bugs :)
When I ran the file to install, it did some routine unpacking then the install application itself disappeared. I never got confirmation of it being installed successfully, so I rebooted. After rebooting, I noticed a new tray icon, Sync Center, so I plugged in my phone and it began to sync. Apparently it had installed fine. So far it seems to work fine with a few bugs and kinks still.
To respond to Ingvarr's post on 10/7, we do not support syncing of Windows Calendar or Windows Contacts. But we do support syncing of Outlook Calendar and Contacts.
To respond to someone's post on 10/7, we are always considering and reprioritizing features based on market demand.
To respond to wizll's post, Sync Center and Windows Mobile Device Center are two different applications. Sync Center gives a summarized view of the sync status of a Windows Mobile device. To actually manage your device, you will want to open WMDC. Check in the Control Panel's Add/Remove programs to make sure it installed successfully. You should also see wmdc.exe running in the Task Manager.
General tip: After installing the latest Beta, you may need to disconnect and reconnect your device to see the WMDC application open.
Thanks for everyone's comments. For more in-depth troubleshooting help, please send mail to dcinput@microsoft.com.
So, about support to synchronize with Windows Calendar or Windows Contacts - is it planned in final version?
I find it quite odd when Microsoft cant synchronize device with own PIMs that are integrated into OS by default.
Hi.
When i use Win XP and Office 2003, i syncronize my PDA with the ActiveSync.
Now, i use Windows Vista and Office 2007, and I syncronize my PDA with my PC using the Sync Center.
But, how can i syncronize my calendar and my Contacts with the Outlook 2007 ?
Thanks
Hello. Is there any update when the Windows Mobile Device Center will be able to Sync Outlook 2007 calendar and contact items with Smartphone 2003 devices?
I still receive this error running the RTM version of Vista and Office 2007 and the latest version of the Windows Mobile Device Center
Please be generous: please make sync with Windows Calendar or Windows Contacts supported --- let those who need the advanced features of outlook to install outlook as necessary
I use a G5 at work and now seeing the iPhone and the complete package... I am really considering to switch all over to OS X given the completeness of their solutions and their fancy web-zooming & gesture interface...
I'm also keeping my eyes on the latest windows mobile & HTC
Hey "Nick White",thx for share

Why don't you support Windows Contacts and Windows Calendar? The device center is meant to be an integral part of the Operating System, correct? So are Contacts and Calendar, right? Why would you require a third party application be purchased to take advantage of this? Wasn't the idea of Windows Contacts and Windows Calendar so that people didn't have to store this information in separate places? I can tell you right now, many people are going to ask this very same question, over and over again. This seems like a very obvious feature.
Also, Device Center is very misleading. Upon my first connection to my Cingular 3125, Device Center makes it seem as if it is syncing with Windows Contacts and Windows Calender (the checkboxes are checked), while E-mail and tasks display, "Outlook not installed."
Hi,
To me it seems ridiculous that in the Windows Mobile Device Center you can't select which program you want to sync your contacts and calendar to. I am not expecting to see compatibility with every program ever built. What I would expect however is the ability to sync with Windows Mail, Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts.
How rididulous is this?
It feels like Microsoft is suffering from the too big a corporation with too many teams working on their individual projects without working together. It does not bode well when this "amazing" system is released but it does not work.
Any updates on whether Windows Mail, Contacts and Calendar will sync with Windows Mobile devices, after all its the same company right?
I just logged in to emphasize that Windows Mobile Device Center should have the possibility to sync with windows calendar and contacts too. As many others already states, it is a shame as it is. To me, it looks like giving the customer a way to live without an expensive solution like outlook but then taking that posibility away by making the integrated solution not realy usable because of missing functionality *shrugs*
Well, that is what you get for believing the hype. Windows Vista crashes every time I try to run it using anything other than an SVGA driver, Media player won't play movies, 'cos there is no video driver, TV card won't work. I found WMDC and thought great, I'll be able to do something, It installs fine but there is no support for windows calender or windows contacts. What's the point? The whole microsoft line during the marketing process has been that home users don't need outlook as Vista has calendar and contacts built in. Now I find that every contact, email address, task, and calendar entry on my windows mobile device has to be entered manually. Might as well go back to XP. Microsoft, you have dissapointed us again. Next time get the software right before you start selling it!
It's a good thing, but I wonder what kind of support they have?
I work in the technical support department at Sybase iAnywhere which recently released "XTNDConnect PC Data Transfer" which can transfer Vista contacts, calendar and tasks both to and from Nokia, SonyEricsson and Windows Mobile phones (you can also migrate data to and from other applications like Outlook and Lotus Notes as well).

You already know that a new version of the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) Beta has been released
