Boosting the Branch

Good news for the many IT pros that support branch office systems.  Today Microsoft and Packeteer jointly announced a new Windows-based branch office box:  the Packeteer iShaper.

iShaper builds on an ongoing partnership between MS and Packeteer, combining Packeteer's WAN optimization and application acceleration with Windows Server and ISA technology.  That means customers can better ensure reliable, secure delivery and performance of over 600 apps over the WAN while using native Windows services for file, print, AD, networking, etc. - all in one box.

Tim Greene at Network World does a good job summarizing the news and includes some comments from customers already using pre-release iShaper.  The first version will be available within a few weeks and by the end of the year Packeteer will deliver an updated version that incorporates more ISA technology.
