Advanced Monitoring with System Center Operations Manager 2007 and System Center Virtual Machine Manager

This blog will now focus on advanced monitoring of heterogeneous data centers. This includes traditional physical servers, both Microsoft and non-Microsoft platforms. It will also include the virtual space, both Hyper-V as well as VMware. Lastly, it absolutely will include networking components!

Database Sizing Estimator (OperationsManager, OperationsManagerDW & OperationsManagerAC)

The attached spreadsheet is not a precise sizing instrument but a very accurate estimator. It will put you in the ball park with about a +5 to 7% surplus under NORMAL OPERATING conditions. The math behind the spreadsheet was worked out by Kerrie Meyler, http://ops-mgr.spaces.live.com/ Please check out her site with updated information pertaining to ACS too.

Walter,

Is there a way to estimate the number of entries (load) a custom MP or what impact the overrides will have on the performance of the Ops DB and Ops DW?

Thanks,

Bryan

Yes. Unfortunatley I have not been able to do so nativley, I use MP Studio form SIlect software. However, a trusty hyper-v environment with some VMs will let you quickly calculate this. Build out the management group and deploy 1 agents. Measure I/O. Drop in the MP in question. Measure. Of course you need to factor in the agent's profile, which base MPs is it using and what custom ones appply. It is tedious but it is also accurate since the difference between lab and production is speed, not rate.
