I have a question regarding how to hide some of the standard site definitions (for example the Blank Team Site) from the Template Selection user interface? I know that you are supposed to change the "Hidden" attribute in the webtemp file to "True" but at the same time it is not recommended that you make any changes to the original files since these changes will be overwritten by updates and such. So how should I go about hiding the build in site definitions?

Regards,

Anna

re: Understanding webtemp*.xml

Anna,

You can modify the existing webtemp*.xml files hiding any site templates that you wish to make unavailable to end-users in the self-service site creation user interface. I would recommend making a copy of the file once modified in the event a service pack, etc. is implemented overwriting those changes, at that point you can simply reapply the modifications from the backup file.
