Why 64-bit?

Why 64-bit? Memory Addressability: A 32-bit system can directly address only a 4-GB address space. With 2 GB reserved for the operating system by default on 32-bit Windows, only 2 GB of memory remains for the application (in this case, SQL Server 2005).
