Improving Battery Life on your Windows Mobile Device

Disabling the HSDPA Radio (Using only GPRS for Web Browsing / Direct Push) 

While HSDPA gives your great download speeds the new Radio consumes battery at a much faster rate than the standard GPRS radio on your mobile Device.  Buy turning off the HSDPA radio you can get substantial more battery life without a noticeable hit to Activesync (Always upto Date) Mail delivery.

Steps for a Samsung/Cingular Blackjack

  1. Enter *#1546792*#
  2. Select Option 3 Network & Call Settings
  3. Select option 5 Network Mode
  4. Select GSM

Menu options don't exist for many other devices such as the Cingular 8525 and other HTC Devices however there is an application Hermes Tweaker for available that can disable your HSDPA radio:
