    Let's get to the interview!

    1. Who are you and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

I am Payman Biukaghazadeh; I studied Industrial Engineering, system analysis major.

I started my working adventures with a couple of BPM and BPR projects in big companies such as IKCO. About 5 years ago I have been engaged in an MS CRM deployment project. After that project my life was completely changed, and I started to devote my whole life to Microsoft Dynamics CRM. At the beginning, I did more analytic jobs, but for now I am more technical than analytic. Currently I am an MCC in MS CRM and struggling to become an MVP! For more information about me, check my website.

    2. What are your big projects right now?

I am currently working on a cloud solution for clinics management in MS CRM platform. Another big project which I work on is the deployment of CRM for the Final (Iran’s biggest online hypermarket).Currently I have finished the Sport Events Prediction Solution in MS CRM which is specially developed for the Brazil World cup 2014. And as a current job we have to maintain and create new contents on the Persian Dynamics CRM Community.

    3. What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

When I started to learn about the MS CRM, it really came complicated to me. But with the help of Technet Wiki, I succeed to learn a lot of things. When I think about the Wiki it really really looks interesting: Others helped me to improve my skill, now it’s time for me to help others to improve their skills. So, I consider my activities in Technet Wiki and forums as a TASK to help other people. It is interesting idea. Isn’t it?

    4. On what Wiki articles do you spend most of your time?

This article about customizing charts in CRM 2011 took about 10 days for me to gather content and write it.

    5. Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

Definitely he is Ed. Lots of activities on almost all sections of MS Social. Unbelievable. I think he has more than 24 hours a day!

    6. What are your top 5 favorite Wiki articles?

Claims based authentication for CRM 2011 is one of my favorite articles. The other one is Plugin Registration Console Application (a good article by Jamie Miley).

    7. What could we do differently on TechNet Wiki?

Currently the official knowledge about the products are published on MS libraries. Is there any possibility that the community also contribute to these articles on Wiki?

    8. What does success look like for TechNet Wiki?

Someday, there would be no need for Microsoft libraries and everything about the knowledge of the MS products would be created by community in Technet Wiki. This is an ideal destination, but when we reach that, it is a complete success for Wiki (my opinion! :D).

Thank you, Payman, for all your community contributions! We love having someone in our community who is an expert in the Persian language and in CRM!

    Let's start the interview:

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

I am Himanshu Sharma and I am 25 years old. Currently I am residing in Pune, India. I work for a Microsoft Gold partner as a Business Intelligence Developer and has been outsourced to a client (finance industry) where my role is of Marketing Analyst. I have completed my bachelors in Computer Science + Mathematics in 2011 and have been working since. My specialization lies in Data Warehousing. In addition to this, I love SQL and OOP. I often find myself indulged in deep dive into SQL and C#. I have also worked on SAP BOBJ environment, have created dashboards and reports using Xcelcius, WebI, Crystal reports. I am a certified Rational Application Developer (RAD for Java) and Rational Functional Tester (RFT for Java) from IBM.

As a Marketing Analyst I create ideas and identify opportunities for several business’ verticals in the company. These ideas can be based on existing customer base with the company or can also include to procure new data set of customers from various sources. Once the ideas are finalized, I write algorithms to identify the best customer base (Sample data to work upon) to communicate with. There are various parameters which help me identify the best base, such as Customer’s age, marital status, location, designation, social networking sites’, income, market capital, stock market, and many more. Communication to these customers is done via various channels such as SMS, EMAILS, SOCIAL NETWORKING, COMPANY’S CUSTOMER PORTAL, IVR, DIRECT CALL, etc. The best channel to be used for customers is also identified by the various algorithms and filters. A detailed recon is done to calculate the success of the implementation. If successful, this is implemented as a full-fledged project in the company.

For implementing these requirements and ideas I use SSIS, SSAS, SQL, C# extensively and most often.

In my free time, I love to read. I am an avid reader, listen to music. I also have an edge towards photography and physics. I often read articles on various topics such as Meta Physics, Quantum condensate, String Theory, LHC, etc. (Basically I read everything which interests me). These days I am also learning to play guitar. (Let’s see how what comes up). I am a big movie buff too, love to watch TV Series, my all-time favorite would be famous sitcom FRIENDS.  Apart from it Game Of Thrones, Sherlock, PB, and the list continues.

What are your big projects right now?

There are always multiple projects I am working upon. Currently two big projects under me are termed as “Prospect Marketing” and “Dynamic Communication Framework (DCF)”. In DCF, I am trying to maximize the success rate from minimum quantum of communication to customers. Let’s take an example of Email as a channel. In this case the email template will be dynamically generated for individual customer based on several parameters. Each customer will have an unique email body and graphics which is best suited for him to respond. No more boring similar templates for all. This way we are maximizing the probability of any customer to respond.

Currently I am also working on an article for TechNet Wiki and learning about implementation of “The Game Theory in the Selection process of a Solution to any Problem.”

What is TechNet Wiki for? Who is it for?

TechNet Wiki is for every developer who is working on Microsoft technologies. The thing I love the most about TechNet Wiki is its diversification among users. TNWiki does not limit itself for advanced users. Any user, be it a beginner, a rookie, or an expert can use it. Sometimes asking for solutions, and sometimes providing the solution.

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

Most interesting thing as I already mentioned is diversification. Apart from it, I also liked expertise of its users. Users like Kalman, Ed, Naomi, Joe, Dan and many more, sometimes imparts very useful knowledge in the most basic problems. The availability of answerers is good. Usually I get solutions to my problems very quickly.

On what Wiki articles do you spend most of your time?

For me the most of the time is spent upon the formatting of the article.  I am slow in that. Actually here I would like to suggest something. “Post an Article” page should also have formatting features. Such as table creator, font editor, etc.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

My favorite article among those which I have contributed. hmmmm….. I think “Geocoding using SSIS and C#” would be my favorite. (Well it grabbed me a gold J)

What are the top 5 Wiki articles or areas that need more attention and development?

Unfortunately I have not seen great articles on MS core BI tools like SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, PPS and SharePoint. It would be good if there are various articles on these topics too. Forum members can post simple articles in starting which gives basic idea about these ETL and Presentation tools, which later include detailed articles on topics such as SCDs, ADO.NET, Dynamic MDX, Dynamic Lists in SharePoint etc.

What could we do differently on TechNet Wiki?

Instead of sending emails on alerts, there should be an inside alert mechanism. The moment I log in, I should be able to see all my alerts on one page under “Alerts” section.

Right now the searching of an article is also very difficult. There should be an advanced search feature which also searches the replies inside a forum thread. Apart from it, whenever any moderator is moving any thread, an alert should come to the owner of the thread.

If any thread is not answered in a span of time (per se 7 days) then Senior members should take initiative to close that thread. This way TNWiki and forum would gain confidence in the eyes of users.

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

There are several people who have impressed me in the forum. Latheesh is one of them. He understands the problem very carefully and then replies in a proper manner. Ed Price, XAMLGuy are  also impressive. They keep on posting encouraging threads on forum. Every month XAMLGuy posts this monthly competition page. This seems very monotonous but I know and understand how important this is for the forum.

When I incepted on the forum and TNWiki, I was deeply impressed by Joe and Naomi. Their articles and replies were bang on. “Infamous Joe’s” way of criticism and teaching have been very important for me. I don’t know about others but his writings have helped me a lot in a manner.

How did you start contributing into MSDN SQL forums?

I remember I had a problem regarding SSRS. I was searching for the solution and suddenly my eyes were laid upon MSDN Forums. All of a sudden my search was deviated into learning of different topics available on the forum. I thought that this is a great platform to learn. I started posting my problems to this forum. Meanwhile I was also helping other fellow users. That was the time when it struck that I should also write articles for MSDN and TN. I wrote my first article titled “Traversing a Node in a Tree”, and since then whenever I am getting time to write, my first priority is MSDN SQL Forum.

Please congratulate Himanshu and feel free to ask more questions.

  • Hunting the unknown species

I guess that when you're the right person for that particular brand of excitement, the recent finding of a new mineral called "Putnisite"  (http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/minsoc/mag/2014/00000078/00000001/art00010) will be quite the event.

When I stumbled upon a new MS product, I had to wonder if I, as seen from the TechNet Wiki perspective, have stumbled on "Wiki Putnisite". I mean, we do have blogs, wiki pages, gallery downloads where you can post whitepapers, refer to videos etc., but it does seem there's a new species in town called Office Mix (https://mix.office.com/). It's a product great for creating interactive knowledge transfer experiences, and when I read about it I was thinking two things:
    • I have to try and find the time to incorporate this into my SharePoint classes.
    • Is this a new flavor that someday should be added to the TechNet Wiki community as a new way to share knowledge or is it too similar to what we've got?

    What say you?

  • Interview with WPF expert dev hedgehog and an interesting twist

Today interview is with dev hedgehog - several times WPF category TechNet Guru Contributions winner.

I initiated a contact with Dev hedhehog and I was up to an interesting surprise. Turned out that this account was a shared account by a group of people. Some of them are WPF experts and some prefer to ask questions in forums.

So, below you'll find answers by one of the group who is WPF guru. I hope you like these answers and don't hesitate to ask more questions:

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

I am dev hedghog. Actually few people use this account to ask or answer questions usually in C# forum and Wpf forum. I am currently in Germany. I am interested in C#, WPF, ASP, SQL...

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

It's a mix of articles about hacks, tweaks, new technologies and new tools that makes me check Wiki on regual base. I love to read techy articles. Wiki is like a super cool library full of helpful things, tips, tricks, chats and other amazing stuff. So far I placed only few articles. All of them were based on WPF technology. I know I started answering question recently so I am still a "newbie" to this community but I plan however on writing more.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

I like uniqueness. So I thought my first article should be something pretty cool and something not many people tried out. So I picked speeding up TreeView. That is my favourite article so far. Many people hate TreeView because with virtualization enabled it doesn't scroll smooth anymore. I have to say Microsoft is not impressing much with the implementation of their WPF Controls. The TreeView, GridView, DataGrid could have been done better. That is not just my opinion. Many people share it. I wish I could chat to a original Microsoft Wpf controls developer. :)

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

Pretty much everybody, who likes spending time explaining things to original posters and posting techy articles, impresses me. No matter if in wiki articles or forums questions, it is not so easy to understand what is being asked. Especially when no additional code  was posted. In such case answerers have to recreate the issue by themselves. That takes a lot of time. Finding hacks and posting aricles about them also takes alot of time. Therefore in my opinion those guys are amazing. I usually have time on weekends to take a look at new questions and try to answer them. I hope one day I could be moderator in wpf forum so I can improve questions.

What are your big projects right now?

When I have time I like to work on a 3D wpf control that shall give a completely new experience of data to user. The idea is to dive into complex data structure. The user shall feel relations between data. No more boring flat lists to scroll through or simple tree view. When I am done I think I ll upload the project here or on codeplex. (If wpf hasn't died till then, joke)

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

My job is currently about WPF, C# and consulting clients. Actually I like checking out things that do not really involve my work. Currently I am seeking for articles and tools which allow me to measure performance of .NET apps.

Hope you liked the interview and see you soon with more interviews.
