• Wiki Life: User Groups Portal

Hello and welcome everybody to our Wednesday - Wiki Life post.

The last time I spoke about how you can build a community. That's a good starting point, but wouldn't it be easier to join an existing community? Luckily, Craig Lussier started an article a week ago which should help you with that. On the Microsoft User Groups Portal you'll find an overview about user groups for several technologies. Sounds easy, right?

So, here's an action item for the people who are already a member of a user group: Link your user group on the appropriate site! Soon you'll have a lot of new guys hanging out with you.

  • Sunday Lists: Something New - Something Personal, "MTFC", "TAT Team", "MTTC" and featuring a WIKI Article !

Hello and welcome to (y)our Sunday Lists!

I was away for a while because I became the father of a little boy named TAHA. I stopped with Blogging on my website, stopped with tweeting, stopped with blogging on Wiki Ninjas, stopped with moderating on the forums etc... But I’m back now! ^^

At a shiny Sunday I want to highlight 6 important points and share some great news! I have so many things to say that I can write still tomorrow night.

    Let’s begin…

    MICROSOFT TECHNICAL FRENCH CONTRIBUTOR

As you know, with Bruno, Ed and Philippe we launched MTFC Award for the French Contributor of the past nonths. It was not a difficult choice to nominate  “Hezequias Vascelomos” as a MTFC.

Thank you Hezequias for being involved at the French community! It’s awesome to have people like you at the WIKI! And as a reward you can find a preview of your certification. It will be send by another member or by me this night to you!

    TECHNET WIKI TURKISH COUNCIL

With Bruno and Ed we’ve decided that I had to focus me more on the Turkish community. Create a volunteer Turkish army and get a better and stronger Turkish Community.

After several Mail exchanges I’m proud to present you my volunteer Turkish Army who will boost the Turkish Language Ranking!

You can call us the TAT Members or better the “Turkish Avengers Team” Members

TURKISH COUNCIL: Translation Center & TechNet Wiki Turkish Council

Like the WIKI PAGE that Ed Price is asking us to fill for the Planning we (the Turkish Council) will have a similar page. We will put every new, translated or modified page here so this page will be the “first point of contact” for each new contributor. No need to search hours for a specific Turkish page if it has been translated or created, just check and find. Even if somebody wants a new translated article he can ask it just by editing the page and if there is no name; it will be translated by my army!

On the TechNet Wiki Turkish Council you can see all the persons who are on the army! If you want to join us “edit the page” and “add yourself”

MICROSOFT TECHNICAL TURKISH CONTRIBUTOR ( MTTC ):

Like the Microsoft technical French Contributor I want to begin a new award system for the Turkish contributors. Only thing that I know is that the award will be named “Microsoft Technical Turkish Contributor" and my co-pilot will be Mehmet parlakyigit.

I will see with my army and dedicate a complete Wiki Page when finished.

    FEATURE A WIKI ARTICLE

2 weeks ago we made a virtual meeting with all the members of the International council and Ed Asked me to write a draft version of the next article: “criteria’s to feature a WIKI article”…  Could you please all take a look at this page and add items that you think is capital for featuring a WIKI article? http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/19945.wiki-criteria-for-featuring-technet-wiki-articles.aspx

    SHAREPOINT MVP

And the last but not least one, I want to thank each WIKI NINJA who helped me to become a Microsoft MVP. With my passion, my will and your collaboration, I can say that I’ll begin a new era. I can only say one sentence:

    THANK YOU ALL!

  • Interview with a Wiki Ninja: Fabrizio Volpe, an Italian MVP (Directory Services)

    Hello Folks,

Welcome to our one more Monday Interview with a Wiki Ninja !

Today, the interview will be with Fabrizio Volpe. Fabrizio is an Italian MVP (Directory Services) and a wiki contributor !

    Fabrizio Volpe's MVP Profile: http://mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/mvp/Fabrizio%20Volpe-4030774

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

My name is Fabrizio Volpe. I live in Rome (Italy). I work in one of Italy's most important banking group within the office that deals with Microsoft technologies and virtualization solutions. My focus is on Directory Services and Unified Communications.

What are your big projects right now?

Right now, I am working with some publishers on projects that will be publically available in the coming months. In November, I will also attend the Interop conference in Mumbai (India) with a session on enterprise voice (hybrid and cloud) http://www.interop.in/

Besides your work on TechNet Wiki, where do you contribute?

My main channel is my blog ( http://blog.lync2013.org ) dedicated to Lync and Unified Communications. In addition, as often as possible, I broadcast videos on my YouTube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/user/Lync2013 ). Both are generating a considerable interest.

What is TechNet Wiki for? Who is it for?

Wiki is a project that allows everyone to find an additional value. In my case, it is like having a continuous peer review and an uninterrupted flow of updates on the published material. I also love the possibility to create open items (especially on design aspects) in which each individual contributor may suggest changes and adjustments. The result is always greater than the single input.

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

Initially I published on the Wiki topics concerning Directory Services and Lync. I tried to select aspects that I felt were poorly documented. In later articles, I preferred design proposals topics, in which each person could contribute with its particular (real world) experience

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

TechNet Wiki is an unbelievable project, in which the contents are published at a very high pace. I find interesting both the continuous attention of the contributors to the new technologies and the effort to localize content in a large number of different languages.

On what articles have you collaborated with other community members on #TNWiki? What was that experience like?

My preferred article from this point of view is “Getting Started with Proposing a Deployment for a Small Lync Implementation” ( http://bit.ly/14vp5oT  ). Comments from TechNet Wiki contributors have helped me in identifying many interesting critical aspects of the design that I was not able to see in the first version of the document.

On what Wiki articles do you spend most of your time?

As a Wiki user, I read often the articles dedicated to Virtualization and the Cloud. As a contributor, I hope to spend more time on Wiki articles in Italian in the next months.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

Understanding Simple URLs in Lync is by far my favorite ( http://bit.ly/13CWltU  ). It required a lot of work but as far as I know, many people have used it.

What are your top 5 favorite Wiki articles?

The page listing Italian articles on the TechNet Wiki ( http://bit.ly/16uKm42 ) is my favorite starting point. Luigi Bruno is making a terrific work on keeping the Italian contributor's community on track on Wiki (keep up the good work, Luigi ! )

The Lync portal is a great starting page too ( http://bit.ly/19bPIzO )

The Hyper-V: Survival Guide http://bit.ly/zU6KqF , Active Directory Replication Over Firewalls http://bit.ly/NCijr9 and PowerShell for Beginners http://bit.ly/1aijYt3 are for sure on my list.

What are the top 5 Wiki articles or areas that need more attention and development?

Italian Wiki, Lync, Windows 2012, System Center, Federation Services and Hyper V are topics that should grow in the next months.

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

Wiki is a group effort, so do not think it is correct to cite a single. I would like to say thank you to the TechNet Wiki International Council for its work on non-English articles.

What does success look like for TechNet Wiki?

It look like the numbers in this page http://bit.ly/1hpl3SB . Over 1600 new articles in a month is an impressive result.

Do you have any comments for product groups about TechNet Wiki?

I would love to see a counter of hits and page-views for individual articles on Wiki. It would be important to understand what topics and explanations have a better reception.

    ***********************************************************************************************************************************

     Thanks Fabrizio for this Interview.

Keep up the good work, keep on writing more and more Wiki's :-)

If you have questions for Fabrizio, please leave a comment here...

  • TNWiki Article Spotlight - BizTalk Server 2013: How to use SFTP Adapter

The BizTalk 2010 release brought an enhanced FTP adapter to support SSL (FTPS), which encrypts the data transfers between systems. This was a great step forward in bringing more support for FTP in BizTalk Server. Subsequently with the BizTalk 2013 release, Microsoft added the highly anticipated SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol also called Secure File Transfer Protocol) adapter.

Before the 2013 release BizTalk Developers/Administrators had to rely on either the open source adapter developed by Blogical found on CodePlex or an adapter from commercial third parties (like /n software SFTP).

Today you can use the out of the box SFTP adapter and do not have to look for alternatives anymore. How to work with this adapter is explained in the BizTalk Server 2013: How to use SFTP Adapter TechNet Wiki Article.

This article has been written by Suleiman Shakhtour, who has recently joined the ranks of Wiki authors. Suleiman describes in this article:

    • how to setup a test environment to test a BizTalk solution that makes use of the SFTP Adapter,
    • how to configure the SFTP Adapter
    • and how to test it.

Besides this article he also wrote another great article called BizTalk Server: Receive and Send Excel Files from Existing Templates, discussing how to deal with incoming and outgoing excel files in BizTalk.

So go check out both these articles!
