• Interview with a Wiki Ninja: Susan Bradley, MVP – SBS

Welcome to our Monday Interview with a Wiki Ninja!

Today the interview will be with Susan Bradley. Susan is a MVP (Windows Server for Small and Medium Business) and a wiki contributor!

    Susan’s MVP Profile: http://mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/mvp/Susan%20Elise%20Bradley-7500

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your  specialty technologies?

My name is Susan Bradley, I'm located in Fresno California.  I'm a Certified Public Accountant and the Network admin for my firm.  I also assist in litigation consulting and technology with my firm.

I specialize in small business technologies, which is just about everything that is done in Enterprise but with less servers.

What are your big projects right now?

Right now I'm working with Amy Babinchak on the SMB kitchen project.  It's a year long multi media learning project that is focusing on the tools (HyperV), the knowledge  and resources that we will need in the SMB space going forward.

    http://www.thirdtier.net/enterprise-solutions-for-small-business/

Besides your work on TechNet Wiki, where do you contribute?

I blog at www.sbsdiva.com as well as the moderator at the http://patchmanagement.org/  listserve which focuses on patching issues for primarily Windows platform.  I also write on patching issues for https://windowssecrets.com/.

What is TechNet Wiki for? Who is it for?

The TechNet Wiki is really for everyone.  One of the most added to wiki those of us in the SMB space have put together is a listing of what external hard drives work well on the Small Business Server platform -http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1780.external-backup-drives-compatibility-list.aspx  It's been going strong for three years now where people can add those devices they've had good luck with.  That's what the wiki is all about.  I call this the "been there, done that".  You can indicate what is real and relevant and what has worked for you and share it with others.

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

My day job is enhanced by others sharing their information with me.  The wiki is like that.  We can all post what we know and all learn from each other.

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

What interests me about the wiki is how it can be a common place for all to share with.  It's not "my" blog it's a common location that everyone can call their own.

On what articles have you collaborated with other community members  on #TNWiki? What was that experience like?

Sometimes it's intimidating to edit someone else's work.  But don't be intimidated.  Your personal experience with something is a vital part of the knowledge base.  Microsoft's engineers and document writers can only go so far, they can't document real world like we can.

On what Wiki articles do you spend most of your time?

I've probably spent most time on the "Build documents" a series of wiki articles on common tweaks for SMB servers.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1780.external-backup-drives-compatibility-list.aspx
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1710.small-business-server-documentation.aspx

What are your top 5 favorite Wiki articles?

Probably all the docs listed here:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1710.small-business-server-documentation.aspx

What are the top 5 Wiki articles or areas that need more attention and development?

I need to go back and reread these documents now and ensure they are up to date.

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

Ed Price has been tireless in tweaking a bit here and there on my articles..

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/profile/ed%20price%20-%20msft/?ws=leaderboard

What does success look like for TechNet Wiki?

When someone finds exactly what they need and leave a comment of "thanks!"

Do you have any comments for product groups about TechNet Wiki?

I'd say take a page out of the Exchange team's organization - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1629.wiki-exchange-server-portal.aspx where it's nicely laid out and easy to navigate.

Thanks Susan for the Interview and the Wiki Contributions.

Keep up the good work and have a wonderful Wiki!

  • Top Contributors Awards!! System Center, Active Directory, T-SQL, C#, Gurus and Greatness!!

Welcome back for another analysis of contributions to TechNet Wiki over the last week.

First up, the weekly leader board snapshot...

More monster scores leading the charts again, with Maheshkumar way out in front.

Naomi a respectable second but half the points. Half again to Richard & Carsten battling for third.

Having seen all the work this week - new articles, duplicates and pirated content removal, it's been a busy week for all four above, thanks folks!

As always, here are the results of another weekly crawl over the updated articles feed.

     Most Revisions Award
Who has made the most individual revisions

#1 Maheshkumar S Tiwari with 547 revisions over 360 articles. Great work again matey!

#2 Naomi  N with 292 revisions over 80 articles. Great work Naomi!

#3 with 145 revisions over 101 articles. Thanks for all your work Richard!

     Most Articles Updated Award
Who has updated the most articles

Slightly different line-up this week, than the award above...

    #1 Maheshkumar S Tiwari with 360 articles!

    #2 with 101 articles!

    #3  with 92 articles!

     Most Updated Article Award
Largest amount of updated content in a single article

The article to have the most change this week was System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager (DPM) SP1 - Part 3: Backup and Recover Mailbox Exchange Server 2013, by Đồng Phương Nam.

Dong has been copying his work in, from his own site, into TechNet, and translating to English, for which we are very grateful. Thank you for your work Dong.

     Longest Article Award
    Biggest article updated this week

This week's largest document to get some attention is the most monstrous Active Directory: Get-QADUser Properties and Get-QADUser Full Help, by .

This is a third party application, but as it was recently tweaked by one of our veterans and is related to Active Directory I guess it fits?

     Most Revised Article Award
Article with the most revisions in a week

This week's most fiddled with article is another new arrival T-SQL Useful Links by Naomi  N. This is a superb collection of links referring to many great sources of info that Naomi has found useful.

A list of bookmarked favourites, so to speak. Naomi has also entered this into our monthly in the TechNet Guru for September competition. Good luck to you Naomi.

     Smallest Significant Edit Award
Size isn't everything! Every edit counts.

Ignoring the addition of tags, this week's smallest but valuable tweak is somewhat controversial!

It was the correct thing to do, no doubt, but on the face of it looks a little mean.

It was by the hand of our almighty wiki leader,

He "dehumanised" the article Progress of a Task in C# by Jaliya Udagedara by removing the sign-off at the bottom...

    Happy Coding.

    Regards
    Jaliya

<sad face> It was the right thing to do of course.

I just thought I'd let Jaliya know my coding will be that little happier, thanks to his contributions! :D

     Most Popular Article Award
Collaboration is the name of the game!

The article to be updated by the most people this week is for the second week running, TechNet Guru Contributions for September 2013 by me!

The month is in full swing now and we are getting some delicious morsels served up on our table, for us to savour!

This week saw TEN people tweak, add and buff the submissions page: pituach, Timo Sö, Maheshkumar S Tiwari, Naomi  N, Ike Ugochuku - MSFT (IdM-FIM Consultant), PaulDAndrea, Steef-Jan Wiggers, Jaliya Udagedara, Ed Price - MSFT, SathyanarrayananS and Xyroid

Thank you everyone for such a great month so far. Keep the work coming!

This week saw another monster, monster week of updated articles, again mostly due to Maheshkumar.

Thank you to him, and everyone else for such hard work all round!

Even the wiki crawler took an insanely long time to collate all the data for this week's article, which is why it is a day late :/

    Best regards,
    Pete Laker

  • Monday Interview: Walter Teixeira

Hello everyone, and welcome to Monday Interview. This week is my pleasure to present the Walter Teixeira , a new contributor to TechNet Wiki.

     Avatar de Walter Teixeira

    One of Walter's articles:

    Utilizando o Cmtrace.exe para visualizar logs do SCCM2012 R2

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Walter Lopes Teixeira Neto, 34 years old, married father of a little girl named Sofia 6 months. I have 16 years’ experience in the IT field , I have worked in large companies such as Bank Sudameris , Unibanco , Rhodia , Arno , IBM , American Express , Electrolux and the consulting Hepta ( Microsoft Partner ) .

What are the technologies that you are an expert?

I specialize in various Microsoft products, Windows 7, Hyper - V Server 2003 MCSA on Windows Server 2008R2 and 2012 and possess certification in ITIL. I am also completing another degree in IT Management.

Besides your work on the TechNet Wiki, where else do you contribute?

I lived most of my life in São Paulo and my big goal is to form a technical community in Brasilia more active. I am recruiting friends to accomplish some things, but everything is in its infancy. Last year could bring IT CAMP (with Vinícius Apolinario) to conduct an event on Windows Server 2012.
While this dream taking shape I follow the TechNet contributing just over one year, discussion forums, and galleries in the Wiki and on my blog (
    http://wteixeira.wordpress.com).

What do you like most on TechNet Wiki?

Having a space to share ideas, present solutions and acquire knowledge, in itself justifies my satisfaction as TechNet Wiki. The Wiki provides a democratic space that allows professionals from different levels and technologies commonplace.

What are your big projects are you currently working on?

I am responsible for project implementation of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012. The major goal is to virtualize Hyper - V 3.0 in most of the physical servers, integrating the SCVMM management environment VMWARE as well as Storages, mesh network and provide a solution for the client private cloud.
Another job I did that deserves mention was the migration of the customer domain to Windows Server 2012.

Who impressed on the TechNet Wiki community, and why?

I love the items Marcelo Sinsic . Their approaches mostly about System Center has greatly contributed to my decision-making technique. I also admire the work of others Professor Rogério Molina .

What are your five favorite articles on TechNet Wiki?

Difficult to score, but the articles about Hyper - V, System Center and Windows Server 2012 are my favorite. There is a feature article from Marcelo Sinsic I can use as a reference to illustrate my predilections TechNet wiki.

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/pt-br/contents/articles/16962.utilizando-o-vmm-2012-para-criar-camadas-de-servicos-com-o-windows-2012-na-nuvem-privada.aspx

What are your recommendations to the community that Microsoft has not contributed to the TechNet Wiki?

They stop wasting time and help (laughs). I know it may seem radical, but as I had put in another question, is a space that puts all professionals in a common place. It is a chance to contribute and be recognized for their services. It is comforting to know that somehow their work is adding to the professional growth of others.

How the community can contribute to the Microsoft TechNet Wiki?

I think nothing replaces practical experience in the use of Microsoft products and solutions.
This experience becomes experience and this experience should not die with us. Divide the situations everyday with our technical community is a great pleasure, for the same channel are teachers and students of each other. Worth believing that a few times with prints screen can change the fate of a colleague in search of knowledge.

Thank you Walter for the interview.

In addition, thanks for your contributions.

     Most Revisions Award

     Smallest Significant Edit Award
Size isn't everything! Every edit counts.

Ignoring the addition of tags, this week's smallest but valuable tweak was to Default Skeleton Server Services by Maheshkumar S Tiwari.

Collaboration is the name of the game!

We are just gathering the last few votes for August and hope to announce the results very soon. Stay tuned!

This week saw one of the biggest number of articles updated ever!

Congratulations to everyone who has worked on the wiki this week, especially new golden boy Maheshkumar!

    Best regards,
    Pete Laker

  • TNWiki Article Spotlight - SharePoint 2013 Books

Hello and welcome everybody to our TNWiki Article Spotlight on Tuesday.

Some weeks ago I wrote about that the wiki needs more SharePoint content. Today I want to start where I left off the last time. In the past we wrote multiple times about some recommended reading about several technologies. Does the wiki contain a recommended reading for SharePoint 2013? Of course! The comprehensive list of books for SharePoint 2013 was written at the end of last year by Bjoern H Rapp and is worth a look. If you want to get started with SharePoint 2013 you should definitively have a look at this article.
