  • Monday Interview with Hezequias Vasconcelos

Hello everyone, and welcome to Monday Interview. This week is my pleasure to present the Wiki Ninja Hezequias Vasconcelos, a top contributor to Technet Wiki and Technet Forum Moderator

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

English: Hello everyone, my name is Hezequias Vasconcelos and reside in Minas Gerais - Brazil. I specialize in Microsoft Office products. My specialty is Project Server, Project Professional, SharePoint and Office.

Portuguese: Olá a todos, eu me chamo Hezequias Vasconcelos e resido em Minas Gerais – Brasil. Sou especialista em produtos Microsoft Office. Minha especialidade é Project Server, Project Professional, SharePoint e Office.

How did you become an Technet Forum Moderator? Do you have any suggestions for other community members who hope to eventually become Moderators?

English: Well, I became a moderator accident earlier this year when I had contact with another moderator Wagner Vasconcellos of the forum Office. I remember that at the time I suggested an improvement too simple to be implemented that was trying to join the forums and MSDN TECHNET the same subject, this moderator readily heard my idea and directed me to the Richard Juhasz responsible team of moderators Microsoft Technet and MSDN - Brazil. He listened to my suggestion and asked if I wanted to become moderator, as the response was so quick and objective afraid and fear more resolution so I accept the challenge. And with the own resources of the community saw that I could even deploy the improvement proposal targeting creating links within each forum, I believe it has helped enough users to get around and navigate within each of the tech forums. I think the call came perhaps I already have a significant number of contributions and the way of choice was naturally.

My suggestion to anyone who wants to become a moderator of a technical community to contribute and maintain a continuous cycle of studies of one or more technologies. Recycle your knowledge, and help people learn progressively in one place is very important for anyone who aspires to excel in some technology in the near future. The Microsoft team as well as the MVP and MCC programs assess and monitor their development within the technical community MSDN, TECHNET among other places depending on your contributions and you could be a future moderator, only depends on you. So it is important to note that your goal macro and micro always will be and will be to help people.

I am very grateful to Richard Juhasz, Wagner Vasconcellos to Microsoft and the trust placed in me by giving me the privilege of becoming a moderator in communities’ techniques Project, SharePoint, and Office VBA.

How did you get introduced to TechNet WIki? And what was your first collaboration?

English: Well, my first contact with the technical community Microsoft Technet and MSDN was just trying to solve problems related to my work. I remember like it was today, that the time was right with the help of the community that I can solve the problem that already took my sleep for days. After this episode, I began to read and study more technology with which I worked and actually realized I needed to repay the help I had at the crucial moment, the best option I found to contribute and help people was answering questions, answering questions and giving guidance to the solution, this was the best way to do that now. We are talking about the year 2008 as the time passes quickly, this year was graced by the community to turn the moderator forums Office, Project and SharePoint as I was and am happy with this opportunity.

Besides your work on TechNet Wiki, where do you contribute?

English: I have always been dedicated to answering questions in forums Technet and MSDN i'm giving more attention lately to answer community that is also a community of great importance and follows the same goal of collaboration. I realized that I could go beyond not just limit myself to answering questions in the forums as I did in the communities. With this objective in mind it was then that I decided to set up my blog, the main aim of this initiative was to help beginners in this technology, providing articles and tutorials Technologies Project and SharePoint, to my surprise there were many visits only in the first month I was very proud to see volunteer work rewarded. That motivated me even more, and soon emerged following other possibility then the creation of the blog, which was to meet the TechNet Wiki and there also writing my first articles. I honestly did not expect to have such a positive impact in this work, where people thanked the information provided, it was very rewarding.

What are your big projects right now?

English: My current project is now writing a book about the Project, this project also is still in a stage of initiation, the more I am studying the major difficulties of this program and what they expect in a book of this technology. First step completed this collection of information should I leave for the proper execution that is writing the dream book. Before I must provide a free e-book for the Microsoft technical community.

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

English: The technical community is important to my work because, while I teach the people answering questions in the forums I also learn, just that you directly or indirectly by being in contact with the subject, their learning is continuous. Another advantage I see in the technical community for my work is the area where we can use for fast support, unique site with objective information and also enables to have the support of professionals already working in the same technology you.

What is it about TechNet Wiki That interests you?

English: Collaboration is the strong point that interests me in Technet Wiki because like all the time we are having a real working environment being treated with doubt and questions from users this provides: experience and learning.

Another key point is the collaboration of other professionals that assist during construction and a lot of new and revised articles, creating a participatory environment ideal with notable contributions.

On what articles have you collaborated with other community members on #TNWiki? What was that experience like?

English: I had the opportunity to collaborate in the creation of glossaries of Microsoft technologies where Luciano Lima - MVP invited me to participate in this initiative. As an end result to this opportunity was the knowledge gained and the opportunity to meet many excellent articles and professionals "reference" to work with other Microsoft technologies such as: Ana Paula Mendes, Daniel Donda, Fernando Lugao, Thiago Cardoso, Luiz Henrique Lima and Jorge cockroach that inspire me to further contribute to the community.

What are your favorite articles you’ve contributed?

    English: I like the articles:

    • S-curve in Project
    • Enabling Project 2013
    • Project 2013 - An overview of the features of the new platform.
    • Glossary: SharePoint
    • Glossary: Project

    • Curva-S no Project
    • Ativação do Project 2013

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

English: The person I was most impressed by the wisdom, dedication, commitment and analysis throughout the community Microsoft Technet and MSDN was the "Ed Price". I feel honored to have had the opportunity to meet one of the best technology professionals who became my reference.

You’ve done fairly well on the Wiki. Do you have any tips or recommendations about editing or authoring articles?

One of the materials that I have as a reference and I recommend to start creating one or more quality articles on TechNet Wiki is "The Life of an article" Eric Battalio and translated into Portuguese by Luciano Lima. Besides this hint when writing an article write from the heart, observe and analyze each line written and I'm sure will be written excellent articles and you will receive many compliments.

To close this interview let a thought of the philosopher Pierry Levy - Book Collective Intelligence:

"The basis and goal of collective intelligence is the mutual recognition and enrichment of the people."

Thank you Hezequias for the interview.

  • TN Wiki Widget, Windows 8, ARM, Certification

In our quest to create the perfect wiki tool, random entries pepper the ninja blogs, highlighting some of the successes and road blocks encountered along the way.

As the holiday season approaches and the world wakes up to superior technology (Windows 8) so does the download rate of the TechNet Wiki Widget (TNWW). However, it now seems that at least one problem (maybe two) was preventing phone users and [possibly] some counties from finding the Widget on their devices!

    ARM processors

Since the release of Windows 8 Tablets like the sexy Surface, the Marketplace has changed, diversified. We must now publish separate builds for x86, x64 AND ARM processors.

All the packages get uploaded together for the application, and I dutifully did so last night (Tuesday 18th Dec).

I am not sure what happens to the 1054+ people who have already installed the original "AnyCPU" build, I assume their version will simply be replaced by the processor specific version.

Also, by including ARM processors, TNWW will face many other tests to ensure it performs well enough on a lower powered ARM chip.

Past releases have taken exactly 7 days to go through, then even a couple more days for it to propagate out to the regional Marketplaces.

If you're using Windows 8 Phone, that's another story, to come soon.

    Rating Certificates

For Microsoft to make games available to some countries, it must provide specific certification, provided by recognised certification boards, which in the case of Brazil is "DJCTQ".

Although I didn't think this was relevant to TNWW, a recent comment by Caio Vilas Boas made me wonder otherwise...

Here is the specific page from the App submission process:

(Click it for full size version)

So as you see, there are restrictions for certain countries, but only for games.

I am hoping Caio, that your issue was the ARM processor issue above, as you didn't state what platform you were using?

Otherwise, we will have to investigate this rating issue further, and either get my App unregistered as a game, or (with your help) navigate the Brazilian ratings board website...

    The quest continues.

    We live, and we learn.

    Regards,
    Pete

  • Top Contributors - Windows Trust, Migration, AGUDLP, ADMT, Slow Boots and Slow Logons (SBSL), Windows Server 2012,

Here is the weekly analysis of contributions to TechNet Wiki over the last week (Fri-Sat)

Firstly, here is the usual weekly leader board snapshot:

Due to some irregularities in the way contributions are recorded, and the wiki stats are auto-generated, I run my own crawl of the actual changes. Then I follow up with a manual check, to discount some of the contributions, as shown below.

Despite this being Christmas week, we still have plenty of great contributions to mention, so with no further delay, here are the results of a two hour crawl over the updated articles feed.

Note, this currently only highlights CHANGES to documents, and does not yet include the new articles feed, which I plan to incorporate in future awards.

    Most Revisions Award
Who has made the most individual revisions

yottun8 takes first place with 24 revisions over 15 articles. This tally includes some excellent policing work, removing plagiarized content and spam

i.biswajith comes in second, with 19 revisions over 3 articles. Some good work improving his already awesome content.

Adriel Gavazza is in third, with 13 revisions over 10 articles.

    Most Articles Updated Award
Who has updated the most articles

yottun8 is first with 15 articles

Adriel Gavazza is second, with 10 articles.

     is third with 5 articles

    Most Updated Article Award
Largest amount of updated content in a single article

This award can work two ways. Either it can mean the most content added or the most content removed.

This week, yottun8 wins the award for removing the most content - a large chunk of plagiarized text, that was lifted from another source.

Good policing work yottun8. We are all very proud of the reputation of TechNet Wiki, and such plagiarism is not wanted.

It is therefore worth mentioning the second place in this category, which is one of the documents i.biswajith has been working hard on - Windows Trust, Migration, AGUDLP & ADMT

Although most of the changes were last week (21st) his work on the 22nd put this document into the awards for this week. Another great resource, examined closer in another award below.

    Longest Article Award
    Biggest article updated this week

This week, the longest document to receive significant changes was Tools for Troubleshooting Slow Boots and Slow Logons (sbsl)

A very useful article created by Justin Hall MSFT documenting troubleshooting experiences of Microsoft Support.

The last edit by rüdiger itner is unclear, as the revision compare page is a bit broken, and rüdiger didn't comment his changes.

The majority of this article is in fact an appendix containing a mammoth hex dump, but it is still by default the biggest changed document this week.

    Most Revised Article Award
Article with the most revisions in a week

The Article to receive the most revisions is, as mentioned above, Windows Trust, Migration, AGUDLP & ADMT by i.biswajith

Although some of the text has been lifted from other sources, it is a nicely pulled together collection of info, and modernised piece of work, which i.biswajith is working hard to personalise, and well worth a look.

    Smallest Significant Edit Award
Size isn't everything! Every edit counts.

Ignoring the addition of tags, this week's smallest but valuable contribution was to Ingresso Off-line para domino Windows Server 2012 created by Diogo Molina

Adriel Gavazza made a few small but valuable tweaks to a great article.

    Quickest Helping Hand
Correcting each-other's work is what TNWiki is all about.

This week's fastest fiddle to another's work is not actually a fiddle, but I believe is just a comment...

Wiki: エディターの利用 (ja-JP) written by yottun8 was apparently edited just 5 minutes after 'wiki legend' yottun8, but I am unable to find the actual edit that this other fella made.

I believe revision 8 may have just been to add a revision comment, possibly because they did not see the regular comments box at the bottom of the article?

Documents can have "comments" (without editing) and "revision comments" (edit notes summarising the edited changes).

Revision comments with no actual change are something we need to ignore in both the wiki stats and my crawler stats.

Congratulations as always, to all the wiki ninjas listed above.

Your work is always noticed and appreciated.

Tune in next week for more of the same.

Hopefully see YOUR name in the awards!

    Best regards,
    Pete Laker
