• International Update - Top 12 Contributors to the Russian TechNet Wiki

This is the first blog post in this series of the top international contributors to TechNet Wiki. Here are all the blog posts in this series:

    1. Top 12 Russian Contributors (this page)
    2. Top 17 Portuguese Contributors
    3. Top 16 Turkish Contributors
    4. Top 11 Spanish Contributors
    5. Top 22 Portuguese Contributors - 2013
    6. Top 10 Turkish Contributors - 2013
    7. Top 5 French Contributors
    8. Top 14 Persian (Farsi) Contributors

As many of you know, we released three new language-specific versions of TechNet Wiki...

    1. Portuguese (Brazil) - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/pt-br/

    2. Chinese (Simplified) - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/zh-cn/

    3. Russian - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/ru-ru/

And there are many language communities that are very proactive on the main TechNet Wiki site: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/

Today I want to focus on the Russian TechNet Wiki.

I think the biggest improvement that the site still needs is that the portals on the top (the blue boxes, which act as category lists) still point to my portals for the English language. Is there a Russian contributor who wants to make Russian versions of the portals? Then the community can slowly build out the portal lists and add the Russian articles. After that, we'd just have to link to those artcles from the Russian main page.

Today I'm going to take a look at the top 12 Russian contributors that seem to pop to the surface. I feel like we haven't engaged with them enough and haven't gotten to know them yet.

These contributors are ranked by overall Wiki pages they've authored in Russian. Tie breakers go to the one with more edits. As you'll see, we still had a tie with two #9s. But that's okay. I listed Alexander first, since he has a picture. Plus it looks like he's doing stand up comedy. I'd have to get that translated though, to enjoy it.

Anyway, congratulations to all these contributors! You're paving the way for the Russian community! Great job, everyone! At this point, every contribution is significant when you're a pioneer and building a new community!

So there you go! We've got 5 MVPs up here. That's pretty impressive! Special thanks to Yelena for her hard work on this Russian Wiki!

I'll have to update this list sometime and see how it changes! =^)

This was kind of fun. Slightly time consuming, but I could always make it a top 5 list instead (if I do another one). Do you think I should do something like this for the Brazilian TechNet Wiki next?

Have a great weekend! And don't forget to Wiki!

  • Putting a face on the TN Wiki community

The intention of a Wiki Community Win article is to provide an example of great collaboration. Instead of pointing to a specific Wiki article, I want to take a moment and discuss how Wiki Ninja interviews put a face to the TN Wiki Community and thereby add real value to collaboration.

As a side note, I’ve found that “collaboration” is a popular word in Microsoft technology (especially in the various SharePoint technologies).  For me, this took some time to get used to. I grew up disliking this word, in the Netherlands the term “collaboration” got tainted during World War II and in fact means “working together with the enemy” (see  http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaboratie, Dutch only and http://www.history.co.uk/explore-history/ww2/collaboration-and-resistance.html). This is a huge difference to the term as currently described by Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaboration; here collaboration only means working together to achieve a goal.

History lesson is over. Let’s see how Wiki Ninja interviews put a face on the TN Wiki Community. For example, take my Wiki blog post “The Big Bang” metaphor (http://blogs.technet.com/b/wikininjas/archive/2012/06/17/the-big-bang-metaphor.aspx)... I noticed a nice comment by Fernando Lugao Veltem. Now, I saw his name before, but that was all. So, as a first step, I’ve checked out his profile and find out that he’s heavily involved in TN Wiki, and that I don’t speak enough Spanish to understand what he’s doing. Things become clearer after reading his interview (http://blogs.technet.com/b/wikininjas/archive/2012/01/02/interview-with-a-windows-server-and-exchange-mcc-wiki-ninja-fernando-lug-227-o-veltem.aspx). Now I know a lot more about him, such as that he lives in Brazil and can be trusted with your server park.

To me, this is what brings life to a virtual community. Getting to know your peers a little bit better makes it more fun to participate and lowers the barrier for contributing to the Wiki pages of others, and therefore the entire brand of TN Wiki Interviews is my example of great collaboration.

  • TNWiki Article Spotlight - BizTalk: List of Errors and Warnings, Causes and Solutions

Welcome to our TNWiki Article Spotlight on Tuesday!

I usually write up a lot about BizTalk Server. Through my personal blog, magazines, and the TechNet wiki (see BizTalk Server resources on TechNet Wiki). However I am not the only one. Others in the BizTalk community and with Microsoft have contributed articles too. This can be an inspiration for others to write. One of article that deserves attention is the BizTalk: List of Errors and Warnings, Causes and Solutions article by Sandro Pereira.

Sandro has worked hard the last couple of months. He has put a lot of effort into compiling a list of errors, warnings, causes and solutions in all stages/components of BizTalk. The different stages  are development, deployment, adapters, runtime, setup and configuration. The list in this article has proven to be very useful for BizTalk developers and administrators. It basically acts as a knowledge base and proves that the TechNet wiki is a best place for it to compile such a list by adding, modifying and updating. Not only by Sandro himself, but also others from the BizTalk community. Collaboration between members of community can be empowered through the TechNet Wiki. I believe this article is a great example for it. In my view this article deserves to be article spotlight this week. Sandro has done an excellent job creating this article/knowledge base. It will be maintained for a long while as more information will be added and updated in the future.

So go check out all the wonder, and dive in! The Wiki's warm.

  • Interview with a Wiki Ninja Brazilian MVP Daniel Donda

Hello everyone, and welcome to Monday Interview. This week is my pleasure to present the Wiki Ninja Daniel Donda, brazilian MVP and top contributor to Technet Wiki.

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

English - Hello, my name is Daniel Donda, I'm from São Paulo capital. I'm specialist in IT infrastructure and information security. My specialty is infrastructure with Windows Server (Active Directory, Network, Security), today I'm focused on Windows Server Core.

I've written two books, one about Windows Server 2003 and the last one about Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core.

How did you become an MVP? Do you have any suggestions for other community members who hope to eventually become MVPs?

English - I have collaborated with the IT community for many years. And only in 2011 during an event called Community Zone I was nominated. I had not yet seen the email, but the JP Clementi our MVP Lead showed me the message on his cellphone. It was very exciting because there was a large crowd waiting for this. Never forget that day. My suggestion to my colleagues who like to collaborate with the community, is to continue participating and contributing more and it is important that your actions may be seen and you will be identified as a candidate for MVP.

How did you get introduced to TechNet Wiki? And what was your first collaboration?

English - I was introduced to TechNet Wiki in a community event and I was very excited to be able to put my articles directly  in the Microsoft Wiki.

I began with a subject I always found interesting and the students always get confused, so I started writing the article "Understanding the User Group Policy Loopback Processing Mode". And I thought it deserved  an English version and was with the help of Ed Price who corrected the errors of English (many by the way) so I can publish my firts and unique article in (so far). That was in March 2011.

Besides your work on TechNet Wiki, where do you contribute?

English - A few years ago I created a site for our user group named Mcsesolution.com and there I could contribute with articles, tips and files related to certification, infrastructure and security. Even today I collaborate with the site with news and as a hub of my contributions in the community. Recently I started publishing articles in the Microsoft Technet Library too. And I'm very happy with it.

What are your big projects right now?

English -I'm working on an e-book about PowerShell for infrastructure and can even become a printed book. But still in a very early stage. I intend to launch later this year. And as part of learning the focus now is Windows Server 2012.

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

English - TechNet Wiki is very important for my work, since I spend most of time solving problems and implementing solutions, I need a centralized technical support and I find it in TechNet Wiki.

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

English -The collaboration, if you do not find what you seek, why not study, understand and collaborate? Another important point is that you're not alone, there will be other community members who will review your items leaving them up to date.

Another important factor is the feedback you receive that enriches the learning experience.

What are your favorite articles you’ve contributed?

English -My favorite are all Windows Server Core articles  and one in particular that I use frequently that is "Audit logon in Windows Server 2008 R2".

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

English -Many, Ed Price who helped me a lot in the beginning. Yuri Diogenes that even living so far away it is always present and ready to help us. Luciano Lima with its great collaborations and with that special force in the dissemination of our contributions. Luiz Henrique and Fernando Lugão they are doing an excellent job and all those who dedicated themselves to collaborate and share knowledge.

You've done fairly well on the Wiki. Do you have any tips or recommendations about editing or authoring articles?

English -Thank you, my recommendation is very simple for those who want to contribute. If you do not find you looking for, study and create your article, disclose to the community so everyone can collaborate and improve the quality of content. And remember, collaboration is not only creating an article, but also editing and improving existing articles. Participate.

Participe.

Thank you Daniel for the interview.
