An Office KMS Host running on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 does not need to be updated. It can successfully activate all client systems out of the box.

i downloaded the file kb2885698 but its saying the update is not applicable to the computer. im running server 2012 r2 standard

Hi,
We have KMS host running on 2012R2, and we are unable to activate Office 2010 clients running on Win7 :/
Clients with 8.1 and Office 2013 activate just fine - any idea what is the problem?!

No hotfix is required for Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

Please ensure that you are running the Office 2010 KMS Host (www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx) on the Windows Server 2012R2, in addition to the Office 2013 KMS Host.

Not sure I understand?! Initial issue states that "activate Microsoft Office running on Windows 8.1...fails" - which is the case with me after upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 (activation was OK on, but after upgrade a re-activation was required ... which failed!). But then you say that for Windows 8.1 no hot fix is required. So how do I get it to work then? I'm running Office 2013 Professional Plus.

The hotfix from the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:support.microsoft.com/.../2885698 needs to be applied to the KMS Host and not the client. Please apply the appropriate hotfix from the KB article to your KMS Host server.

Mani, no update is required to Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2, thus there is no link for it.
