Devops is an approach that can increase the flow of work and the efficiency of the the ADLC. It may be a priority for some CIOS that recognize the need to increase and accelerate the value that IS/IT brings to the firm. Other agenda items today can include improving ITFM, moving to a cloud based infrastructure, delivering on mobile requirements and delivering value through a big data initiative. Prioritization is critical to success. In some cases Devops should be prioritized and in other cases it should not.

If the only value in IT comes out of how well the PR campaign is run then IT deserves to become irrelevant.
If you really want to shake things up maybe giving up the assumption that the CIO has to be "he" would be a good place to start.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. DevOps is not the answer to everything in IT. We know it is 42 :), right? And no CIO worth her or his salt would only look at DevOps to solve existing challenges or challenges ahead.
It is important though to understand that DevOps in the enterprise is here to stay and that there is much to gain from a DevOps approach. I would even argue that many IT teams are already working the "DevOps way" for quite some time but never thought about
it or have not had the time to care about what it might be called.

Thanks for sharing. Integration and therefore automation is a key pillar to successful improving time to delivery and the quality of the results in a repeatable fashion.
Sorry if I misunderstand but platform is an overloaded term. Like you said, there are many excellent products that, properly aligned (read: integrated), enable generation of business value and any integration work is well spent. DevOps or not.

Assuming you are referring to my use of the word "his" when talking about the CIO: In the context of this post and in an earlier iteration I always used “her or his” instead of just “his”. I have to admit, reading it made me stumble over it all the time. Then
I used “her” exclusively and finally decided against it. Thanks, point taken.
