Unfortunately it didn't work with a HP dv6809wm laptop.  DVD not showing in Device Manager either (but drive opens during POST).  Any other recommendations?  Thank you.

I just wanted to say thank you. I've had this problem a few times installing Win8 on different systems, and this cleared it right up ^_^

I tried that but get the message "ERROR: Access is denied.

I got access denied too.  Not sure what is meant by Metro UI

To Jim & poor1:  run Command prompt as Admin (Right click on Command Prompt icon), otherwise you'll get this access denied error.

UI is User Interface.

Just type in Search "Command Prompt", then right click on the icon and then "Run as Admin" nad copy the text mentioned in the beginning, reboot and jabadabaduu :)

Thank you it worked for me, and it looks like another awful attempt of Windows 8 to avoid including a simple and "cheap" hardware item that I would like it to be able to support, I can't afford all new hardware like everybody else who seems to have ca$h flowing out of their pockets all the time, I would rather put the dollars to GOOD use............

This problem had been driving me nuts. Did what the man said and it solved the problem in 30 seconds. Thank you
