About Alan Le Marquand
I've been in the IT industry since 1983, first as a developer in the UK using COBOL, which lasted about 4 years. During this time I learn the in's and out's of the Honeywell DPS6 operating system and TPS6 transaction system. This lead to a 10 year career at Honeywell, later Bull, where I became a 3rd level support engineer analysing and patching these two systems. The later years at Bull saw the industry change with the release on NT and I switched to supporting NT systems. It was during this period I become a certifed Professional and was offer a job at Microsoft. I completed my MCSE at Microsoft while working at a field presenter. The first 2 years at Microsoft was spent talking to customers about Microsoft Products and helping them deploy, maintain and use them more effectively. In 2001 I transfer from Microsoft UK to Microsoft Corp US. My time at Microsoft HQ has been with TechNet and MSDN and now the Technical Audience team. My role is to design and create the technical content you see at TechNet events and webcasts worldwide. I convert marketing speak and requirements into technical presentation that try to help IT Pros. I am the technical person on this team - even though I have a marketing title. I also run other programs for TechNet, TechNet Spotlight and TechNet Speakter tours. My side line is running and managing the teams systems, which involves administering and maintain the servers, as well as translating technical langauge into language marketeers understand and vice versa. I've now transfer back to the UK to spend more time in a field office and work closer with customers and the community in content development. A lot of my blog will be around the various books I read and review as I design things like the TechNet 24 hour webcast series.
