New UPHClean beta build

Hi there!

Good news -- I'm releasing an updated beta build today.  It fixes machine hangs and crashes that could occur with build 2.0.48.0.

The 32 bit plaform bits are here and for 64 bit platforms here.

If you find any problem with this build please email the details to uphclean@microsoft.com or post them here.

Thank you all for your patience in waiting for updated beta bits.

Robin

You mention a remedy for hangs and crashes, but what about profiles that simply do not load and unload properly?

If you get a case where the profile does not load or unload properly email me at uphclean@microsoft.com to discuss the particulars.  Thanks.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for the new build. The community really appreciates your efforts (at least I do;-)

Could you elaborate in general terms on what the registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UPHClean\Diagnostics do if DWORD is set to 1?

The Symantec Antivirus real-time scanner (Rtvscan), in particular, is notorious for its death-grip embrace during shutdown. Here is a representative article from their knowledge base:

Nettlesome security software is what got me hooked on UPHClean in the first place.

We do not have a E: drive mapped in any way on this server.

# re: New UPHClean beta build

Robin,

Thanks for the great work on UPHClean, we have already used 2.0.48.0 Beta (32-bit) on XP and it no longer requires a reboot to fully release user profile(s).

We're now going to test 2.0.49.0 Beta.

Is there any timeframe for a "general availability" release of UPHClean?

I'm about to test the x64 edition of UPHClean v2.0.49 Beta, but would appreciate any information you can provide on an ETA for future updates, in particular a 'ship quality' release.

Thanks for your work on this tool - I've been a fan for years.

# re: New UPHClean beta build

I have tried UPHClean 2.0.49.0 x64 on the x64 versions of Server 2003 R2, Server 2008, and Server 2008 R2.  On Server 2003 R2, it loads with no problems.

But on Server 2008 and '08 R2, it fails to load, with Security Event 5038 and Application Event 1031.

Security Event 5038:

Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid.  The file could be corrupt due to unauthorized modification or the invalid hash could indicate a potential disk device error.

File Name: \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\drivers\uphcleanhlp.sys

Application Event 1031:

User profile hive cleanup service was unable to load and start a required driver.

Insure that the account used to run the service has the load driver privilege and  that this account can write to the directory where the service is installed.

See the diagnostics log for more information.

Note, there is no uphcleanhlp.sys in System32\drivers.
