The need for teamwork between IT Department, School Management and district Legal Counsel

In the July 2007 edition of the California School Boards Association’s publication “Governance & Policy Services News", there is a great article that highlights the “importance of regular and effective communication between management officials, information technology staff, and district legal counsel”. 

The article reviews some of the highlights/impacts of recent amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures and how it relates to K-12 School Districts. Not only is there a need to have processes, procedures and techniques in place for retention/disposal of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) but also to be able to identify and hold information that would be relevant to litigation.
