Well, 20 days is a long time, but i guess this is better than nothing. Still, why not release it *now*? With Akamai, i doubt that this would be a technical issue (but i'm willing to listen).

It will be sooner then the end of the month for the update bits, I just don't have the final date yet.

Really great news! Although the SP1 beta testers and the corporate license users have got the RTM at last Friday. I don't know why we can't get it at the same time like them?

I beta tested Vista from Build 5000 and SP1 from the get-go and have yet to receive any info re the RC2 release... any one else in the same boat?

Thanks for the update.

I still reckon you guys need consistent release approaches that dictates the order in which products and updates are made available (i.e. internal deployment, then RTM, then TechNet/MSDN/Partners, MVLS, then WU/MU, etc - not a complete list obviously, but you get the idea).

This then bypasses the discrepancy we saw with 2008/Vista SP1, everyone then knows there's a specific order in which the various channels get the product and you don't get various market segments getting pissed off.

I think that there still should be some announcement regarding which devices and driver versions are being affected by the SP1 install.

I know it has been said that this wait time is so the driver issues can be worked out with the hardware manufactures and the new drivers can be posted to the Windows Update site.

The problem is that many people including myself, do not install any drivers via Windows Update, as there have been many issues with the drivers posted to the site. This has happened to me with Video drivers, even on Vista, and I know that bad drivers posted on Windows Update for Vista caused total raid failures on NVidia 680i motherboards for some Dell XPS 720 users.

It would be better to have a list so we can begin assessing what hardware we have on our networks that will be affected so we can search the hardware vendors ourselves.

Thanks, Kathy. Though I certainly do not approve of the way this was handled at all, and though being among those who considered cancelling my subscription over this ridiculous decision on release dates, I am also not very happy at the way some of my "colleagues" responded. There is understandable anger and frank surprize at this bungled release, foul language and threats are not the way civilized people resolve things. Sorry about those people and thank you for your personal efforts.

I am glad that SP1 has finally been schduled for release to Technet/MSDN users. I also appreciate all the work Kathy has done to make this possible.

I hope this was a rare episode and that future updates and releases will forwarded out as soon as they are ready. The majority of the Technet/MSDN user base are the exact people who will support, develop, and install new Microsoft products and updates. To keep us out of the loop is not something I can see helping when the time comes to push out a big update.

This is still BS!! There is no reason at all that MSDN and Technet Subsribers are made to feel Dumber than TechBeta and Volume License Subscribers and need to wait for some undisclosed driver issues to be fixed before we can get out hands on the RTM of SP1! This is not a smart move at all!!!

Thanks for pushing for this to be released earlier. I noticed that the MSDN blog today posted that the bits will be available by the end of the week. Is the same true for Technet?

I still cant download the Vista SP1 from the Top Download links..

I followed all the steps to install the activeX controls, cleared all my internet cache files, put *.microsoft.com on both my pop-up list and trusted website list and yet with all of that it still doesnt let me download. Flashes the screen then right back to the home page.

First Vista is a flop and not working, and now the downloads dont work. I havent installed the Silverlight Beta, last thing I need is another beta software on an already unsatisfactory Vista machine. I'm willing to give Vista SP1 a one week test if I can ever get it. If I dont see it improved, I'm scrapping it back to Windows XP or Linux... If that happens no sense in me continuing to pay for Technet.
