TechNet Plus: Windows XP SP3 is available for Download

Hello -

We are pleased to announce that “update only” Windows XP SP3 bits in all languages are now available on TechNet via the Top Downloads location.  Please read the directions in that section or on our FAQ about using Top Downloads.  Windows XP SP3 includes previously released updates for the operating system, as well as a small number of new updates that should not significantly change the Windows XP experience.

As TechNet subscribers, we highly value your feedback regarding Windows XP SP3 availability and one of our top priorities is responding to your requests for Windows XP SP3 bits as quickly as we can.  Over the last few days, the team here worked with our bandwidth and system partners to come up with creative solutions to make Windows XP SP3 available to you as soon as possible.

We still plan to begin rolling out the integrated build for Windows XP SP3during the first week of May.  We value your support and enthusiasm, and will continue to listen to your feedback as we deliver the TechNet Subscription service.

Thanks,

Kathy

The ActiveX control gets installed, I can see the download in the manager, but an error pops up. When I click resume it immediately gives an error.

Nick FYI, XP x64 is based on the Windows 2003 x64 code, so SP2 remains the current version.

Nick,

x64 is based on Server 2003, so SP3 is not applicable to x64.  SP2 is the latest for x64.

Not that it's a big deal but the "What to know before installing Service pack 3" link on the install screen gives you Service pack 2 information. Someone may want to update that.

Jim said:

Thanks for the early download!

FYI, the FAQ file (faq.htm) packaged in the ISO references SP2 throughout.

Will the administrative download version be available before the integrated XP SP3 build?

It appears IE7 will not install after installing XP SP3. It appeared to be failing due to the installation of XMLLite (xmllitesetup.exe). Running the standalone XMLLite update (WindowsXP-KB915865-v11-x86-ENU.exe) failed as well.

Will a new IE7 installer be issued?

Small Toad,

You need to go to IE7 download page and install from there as the earlier version you're trying to install doesn't know about SP3.

I wsted over an hour today getting shuttled from one "tech support" person to another trying to get the download problem resolved. As far as the reference ID for my problem was concerned, I had to ASK THEM if they wanted it. (It was 8574F021, just now, on fourth attempt to download, this time from another machine, at home, instead of from work.) Not to be a downer, guys, but you really need better tech support for whatever is causing this problem with downloading the SP# iso image.

Why does ms go out of their way to make things more difficult. My subscription it seems is a way for me to pay money to MS to allow them to further aggravate me!

I have done some searching for Win XP SP3 and found that it was on Technet Plus but was not available for me to download, i am not sure if this is because i am in the UK and it is only avaliable to the USA only or whether it is because i refuse to pay the subscription prices (cant afford it) when is Microsoft going to release SP3 to the general public or are they not going to bother because they are phasing it out in June and concentrating on Vista (i have had several colleagues approach me asking to downgrade vista back to xp as they hate it).  I dont blame them after playing around with it on my wife's laptop i will stick be definately be sticking to XP
