TechNet Plus: Patches & File Transfer Manager Download Client

As mentioned in my previous post, we are aware that some Subscribers have recently become unable to access Subscriber Downloads, receiving Error Code 11008 when attempting to gain access.

During recent system maintenance, changes were made that have created issues with access from some Subscribers’ systems.  It is not an option to roll back these changes, so work is now underway to evaluate possible solutions.

Several Subscribers facing this issue have posted suggestions on this blog and on other forums and blogs, and we recommend you try the following:

1.       Delete cookies and browser cache

2.       Try accessing Subscriber Downloads from an alternate location and/or an alternate computer

We do take this very seriously, and continue to work towards resolution.  This upcoming weekend, November 10-11, there will be some intermittent unavailability of TechNet Plus Subscriber Downloads again for several system updates and patch applications.

·         11008 ERROR PATCH APPLICATION

o    These will include the application of a patch that should address one of the known causes of the 11008 Error many of you have been suffering with. We have a benchmark of the 11008 errors logged and will be monitoring them following the patch deployment.

o   We have also identified several other actions/scenarios resulting in the logging of the 11008 errors, and we will continue to monitor to see if additional patches need to be developed for these. Many of the 11008 errors logged DO NOT result in users being denied access to the downloads, although we know that some could.

·         NEW FTM CLIENT  -

o   One of the other upgrades this weekend relates to the system that delivers the bits for Subscriber Downloads. A new FTM (File Transfer Manager) Download Client is being released. You will be required to upgrade the existing FTM Active X control when you go to initiate a new download following the upgrade.

Have Feedback?  Leave a comment – I looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Kathy Dixon

Hi Trevor -

11009 is a new error code that was part of our patch this weekend.  I'm checking with the systems team for the troubleshooting steps for this error.  In the meantime, What are you trying to do when the error occus? Are you able to sign into other sites using the same Windows Live ID?

Hi Kathy -

I got error 11009 all day yesterday whenever I tried to log in. It is not affecting any other sites using the same ID. I tried clearing cookies, cache and re-booting but kept getting the error. However today I have been able to log in first time with no problems, so hopefully the error has been rectified.

I have not been able to access downloads on xp x64 using the 64bit browser.  If I use the x86 browser and sign in before clicking on the download link I have no problems. (x86 is in x86 program files)

NOT AGAIN! As a TechNet Plus subscriber I am really fed up with the main component of my subscription being faulty.

Please sort this out properly. I do not even get the benefit of an error code at all. Just a dialogue box saying my if I am running XP or MS Server 2003 Blah Blah. I get referred to http://transfers.ds.microsoft.com

to resolve the problem. This learned document tells me to create a folder for my downloads. Run FTM (WHICH IS THE ONE THING I CANNOT DO!) select options blah blah. I tried for the umpteenth time to download and Lo and behold a FTM Version 5 was given to me as a download. So it was all backwards but we got there in the end.:~)

I am a new subscriber to technet, so it's always possible my problems are my own doing. However, I am having a problem with the functionality of downloaded images. I have downloaded approximately 4 iso images in the last week. Mainly Vista, and varying versions of office. Downloads have looked good, I have burned all of them to DVD's and that process looked good. However, I have yet to get a clean install from any disk. Each one will fail with various incoclusive errors basically saying that files are missing, or corrupt. This is actually quite frustrating in that I have paide money to better help me understand and use these products and better troubleshoot them, and all I have accomblished is a whole lot more troubleshooting and a whole lot of wasted time. If anyone could explain what I may be doing wrong or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
