TechNet Plus will be discontinuing CD media

Hi,

CD subscribers, in a previous post I mentioned that a DVD subscription will reduce the number of discs you need to deal with by an average of 58%.

With the majority of subscribers now receiving DVD or just downloading the content, we will be discontinuing CD media fulfillment as of January 1, 2008

If you are receiving your shipments on CD media here is what you can expect:

1.      You will continue to receive your monthly mailers in CD format until January 1, 2008

2.      As of January 2008, all media will automatically be fulfilled on DVD.

Here are some of the benefits you will experience by changing your subscription to DVD:

  • Fewer discs per year • By changing to DVD, you can receive all the same products on between 40-68% fewer disks, depending on the language pack you receive.
  • Receive a new DVD Welcome Kit • If you have more than 6 months remaining on your subscription when you switch to DVD, your next shipment will include a complete set of current DVDs.  Or renew to DVD early and get a new Welcome Kit!
  • CD-R ready • It is easy to create CD-Rs of individual products from TechNet Plus DVDs. Bootable ISO CD images of all operating systems are included which may be burned to CD-R using any ISO-compliant CD-writing software. For more information on ISO CD images, please visit the Subscriber Downloads section in the Frequently Asked Questions.

If you are relying on Subscriber Downloads and no longer need the disks, you may be able to move to a download-only subscription with TechNet Plus Direct and receive an extension on your subscription.  For more information, please contact the TechNet Customer Service Center for your country or region and Switch to DVD or TechNet Plus Direct today!

Cheers,

Kathy Dixon

Does the "Subscriber Downloads" link take everyone else to an OWA site?

A "complete set of current DVDs" would sure be nice for some of us who might be falling in te "gap". I think that I will have 5  (not 6) months left on my subssription on 1/2008/

I am currently a CD-based subscriber.

How might I also get a "Welcome Kit" wuth the DVDs?

Regards,

pault

Dear all,

Will end-users with Technet License/SA receive the dvd subscriberd media too?

Cornelis C - The SA benefits program benefit has migrated to TechNet Plus Direct and so is not impacted by this change.  If you purchased LSA licenses on your volume license agreement it will be impacted.

My subscription comes up for renewal at the end of December. If I renew, will I receive a new Welcome kit with DVD's? My subscription is currently in CD format.

Echoing William's question, my sub expires in February.  When I renew, will I automatically receive a DVD welcome kit?

Without a fresh kit, I forsee a nightmare trying to manage a mixed CD/DVD kit...  How will we know which CD's are superceded by which DVD's?  Will the index reference both media?

I called the US subscriptions number, and the agent asked his supervisor and was told that existing CD subscriptions will continue to receive CD's until they expire, and will automatically receive a DVD welcome kit when renewed.  This seems at odds with what I'm reading here.  Do the Subs people have bad information, or has the policy been changed since this was originally posted?
