Office Open XML
In case the press release missed anyone on Easter holidays last week, the International Standards Organisation have confirmed the Open XML file formats as an ISO standard. The Open XML format is now effectively a peer of PDF and HTML as an internationally recognised standard format in the eyes of the ISO and national standards bodies.
If you are still wondering,
Office Open XML ("Open XML") is an international, open standard for word-processing documents, presentations, and spreadsheets that can be freely implemented by multiple applications on multiple platforms.
The ISO approval is an important milestone for numerous companies, public sector bodies, developers, etc who rely on Open XML support to manage, utilise and insert data into documents, such as Scottish ISVs Factonomy and Gael Software.
Its also good to see that timewasting tactics of IBM and others have failed to stand in the way of customer value and choice, so that now they have a choice between ODF and OOXML.
