Exciting Office 2010 Announcements!

As well as announcing the Exchange 2010 beta availability, other exciting Office 2010 news has recently been announced by Microsoft.

The next wave of Office products will include Office 2010, SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010. The 2010 system will give users a consistent experience across devices, making it easier to collaborate and create and share documents from any location, using a PC, phone or web browser.

We will announce new delivery and licensing models to help reduce costs and improve deployment and management options for IT professionals, including on-premise or cloud deployment options. The 2010 system will be an expanded platform on which developers can create new applications.

Office 2010, SharePoint Server 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010 are scheduled to enter technical preview in Q3 2009 and RTM in the first half of 2010. Keep watching out for new announcements!

SharePoint is an amazing product - it acts as a collaboration, portal, search, content management and business intelligence tool. However, as with most Microsoft technologies., SharePoint's capability and functionality is significantly increased when it is integrated with other technologies in the Microsoft stack.

By combining the capabilities of SharePoint Server 2007 and Office 2007, companies can provide their employees with a feature-rich yet familiar user interface. Users can interact and edit documents stored on SharePoint Server from directly within the Office clients, without needing to open a web browser. Ultimately this means new SharePoint users can make use of advanced SharePoint collaboration and document management tools directly from programs they are already comfortable with, while advanced SharePoint users can choose to interact with documents and SharePoint site either directly from SharePoint or from the Office suite.

The first aspect of integration featured is the ability to create and modify document workspaces directly from within Word 2007.

Office Live has been around for a while now - I hope you're all using it both in work and at home!

To help you use Office Live to it's full extent (or to learn where to start with Office Live if you're not a current user), Microsoft has launched the OfficeLiveGuy blog. Here you can find announcements, how-to's and tutorials and, in the future, webcasts and guest articles.

The OfficeLiveGuy blog aims to be a highly interactive portal, combining information and knowledge from Office Live professionals as well as various other blogs, forums and wikis.
