This morning I am backing up all of the machines on the network. Of course backing up is one of the most boring things there is (until something goes wrong!) so I am also inventorying my machines as well as the stash of hardware in my closet. All the while, the Media Center PC in my living room has been flattened (again!) and had some hardware swapped and is now getting the Windows 7 x64 Ultimate bits slapped down on it. I am guessing it will be at the “name your PC prompt well before I finish this

We’re a little over halfway done with the Interop Road Show I helped create. Last week Matt Hester did a simulcast of the live event from Chicago. Although he did a great job, I wanted to capture the demos with Camtasia v6.0.2 and provide some high quality audio and video of the demos, so here they are. A Party of Protocols There are a number of ways to invite Linux, UNIX, and OS X to the Windows Server Active Directory party. The operating systems we use today will interoperate in many ways because

On Wednesday May 6th, we’ll be broadcasting the Interop Road Show . Actually it’s going to be a bit of a simulcast. Matt Hester will be in Downers Grove, IL doing a live delivery of the sessions, and we’ll pick up the audio and demonstrations via the magic of Microsoft LiveMeeting. In addition to having Matt present the sessions, we’ll also have Kevin Remde and Shawn Travers onsite helping to manage the questions and get Matt’s attention. And that’s not all. I’ll also be helping

Some of you have attended the Interop Road Show events we are currently delivering across the USA. At those events you have seen us install Apache, MySQL, PHP, Drupal and Wordpress on Windows Server 2008. Astute observation will reveal some of the installs and tweaks aren’t particularly easy, and especially prone to error in front of a live audience. Want to do it the easy way? Introducing the Web Platform Installer ( Web PI ). There are a couple of versions available. The

Don’t forget we just started the Microsoft Interop Road Show and there are events in Dallas and Houston this week. The event in Dallas is actually at our office in Las Colinas, Texas (also known as Irving). Confused? Don’t be. See all of the information at http://www.technetevents.com/interop/index.htm . As a heads up, I am posting the interesting DL info in the long format one more time. Partly because of a time crunch to get the info posted and partly because the alternative means of posting I wanted to do has caused me to raise some questions that I won't get answers to for at least another 24 hours. So here we are..... Cheers! Infrastructure Development & Operations · Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Internet Information Services Management Pack for Microsoft OpsMgr 2005 · Windows

When you sign up for a NEW TechNet Subscription over at the TechNet site , at some point you will get prompted for a discount/promotional code. Use TMSAM02 and it will net you 15% off. This only applies to NEW subscriptions at the moment and it it should work for you regardless of where you are on the planet. This is a brand new promo and I expect a few speed bumps so please let me know if you have difficulties with it. Cheers!

There have been some funny spoof videos over the years, but this is one of the best. It is also the single most star studded video (that I have seen us do). And it is long! Clear the next 7 minutes.....and laugh out loud...it's good for you! Bill Gates’ last day at Microsoft (video) - istartedsomething Cheers!

As you can see at http://edge.technet.com , we are launching a new online portal for IT Pros. Expect to see lots of content in the form of podcasts, screencasts and videos. I have some interesting stuff coming. My EDGE id is KingCobra. Head on over and register if you want a cool name, before all of the cool names are taken. I used my Live ID for the registration process and recommend you do the same. The official launch is next week so be patient while some of the features are enabled this weekend.

Based on the email I receive, I sometimes wonder if people know about all of the excellent Technet offerings we have. I took some time today to link out to some cool Technet properties. Some you will know very well. Others might be new to you. Check them out! Technet Webcasts -- Many of you watch the webcasts I deliver and I truly appreciate your attendance and feedback. Did you know that we archive all of our webcasts for on-demand viewing? In most cases you can even download a WMV file and watch
