  • How to Manually Install Certificates in SBS 2008

[ Today’s post comes to us courtesy of Mark Stanfill ] The SBS Add a Trusted Certificate wizard may fail to display a certificate that is correctly installed in the certificate store if the subject field of the certificate is missing. This happens because some third-party certificate authorities (CAs) issue certificates with a blank subject. The Subject Alternative Name field is used to designate the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the certificate instead. This article documents how to manually

Was auch

  • Interesting Queue Viewer issue on Edge Server

When you start Queue Viewer on an Edge Transport server you are NOT supposed to be able to pick another server to connect to. One reason, is that Edge Servers aren't generally meant to be domain joined, another reason is that the Queue Viewer RPC Server instance which EdgeTransport process starts for you only binds to LRPC (Local RPC) ports and are not accessible across the network. So what happens if you start Queue Viewer, it doesn't try to connect to your local Edge Server instance and only allows

With Exchange Server 2007 SP1 RU8 we disabled promotion of custom X-Headers to named properties when mail was submitted anonymously via SMTP. Only authenticated connections would work. With Exchange Server 2007 SP1 RU9 we disabled all named property promotion on messages submitted via SMTP, however Exchange Server 2007 SP2 introduced a new feature on the global TransportConfig object called HeaderPromotionModeSetting. In Exchange Server 2007, this property supports two values: NoCreate MayCreate

  • Curious about Exchange 2010 Retention Policies?

Defining and enforcing records management policies for e-mail can be a real pain in the <you know what> without having some kind of automated approach. Don't just take my word for it, industry watcher Michael Osterman (of the eponymously named firm Osterman Research ) pointed this out in his May 2009 “ Messaging Archiving and Document Management Markets Trends, 2009-20112 ” report: “ Many organizations have yet to define an email retention policy. More than one‐quarter of organizations have
