  • Hyper-V Update to Improve Network Stability

If you've deployed your ISA Server, Microsoft IAG, Forefront TMG or Forefront UAG on Hyper-V R2 and noticed that a connection between the guest and the virtual switch starts "acting odd", perfoms poorly or becomes disconnected entirely, you may want to apply this update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974909 Thanx to the Hyper-V team for this update! • Troubleshooting IAG and ADFS – Part 2

In this post I will cover the expected traffic flow of a request to IAG that requires ADFS Authentication. Understanding the flow of a normal request is key to understanding where to focus troubleshooting efforts when things don’t go according to plan. Finally I will mention the different logging options that can assist with troubleshooting any problems you may encounter. Traffic flow of a successful ADFS authentication In my lab environment I have the following hostnames: sp2portal.contosopb.com

  • Directions for using the SCVMM MPS Reporting tool

I noticed this weekend that the directions for the SCVMM MPS Reports utility are incomplete. The only instructions that come with the utility are the ones on the download site that tell you how to download and run the tool: INSTALLING THE MPS REPORTING TOOL ================================= >>>To install the MPS Reporting Tool 1. Download the file MPSRPT_SCVMM.exe. 2. Copy the file to the computer on which you want to diagnose problems. 3. Open an elevated Command Prompt window with administrative

  • RRAS Ports are not created after enabling VPN on ISA Server 2006

    1. Introduction This post is about an issue that was causing VPN Clients not being able to establish a VPN connection with ISA Server 2006. 2. Symptoms When testing the VPN Client access in this particular scenario we could see on ISA Server Logging that the system rule that allows VPN Client access was identified but it shows an error saying: Failed Connection Attempt: Using the command netstat -nao we verified that there was no process listening on port 1723, which is not correct since svchost.exe

Puedes leer los detalles y acceder al Fix para instalarlo en: KB976246 - When you remove a virtual hard disk from a virtual machine in System Center Virtual Machine Manager

  • Love Me, Love My OS

There is an interesting IT Pro content development over  in KBs. When I go to a KB that does not apply to my current OS, I get this: This is frequent scenario for IT Pros because security best practice is to NOT browse the web from your server. So, if there is a problem on a server, many IT Pros research what to do about it from their client machine. This also helps consumers find the right content even though a search engine may have returned a KB with some vague matching keywords. Wouldn’t

  • Hyper-V How To: Plan Performance

Customers often ask “Given a hardware load-out X, how many Ys can I get/run/host?” The frustrating answer always starts with “…it depends…”. We caveat this way not because we want to frustrate, but because it is true. Many teams will go on to say “We have tested the following in our labs and gotten the displayed results…” 1 X = thingy 2 X = more thingies 3X = many more thingies While accurate, not super-helpful. The truth is that to do good perf planning for Hyper-V you have to run some tests. Run

  • Issues adding a single node cluster into management by VMM

Recently we have seen an issue where a few customers have been experiencing errors and long delays in adding a single-node (i.e. a 1 node cluster) cluster under management in Virtual Machine Manager. The error that is displayed in the console is Warning (13926) that all of the nodes could not be contacted. This issue stems from the fact that VMM has an overcommitted property for each cluster. By default, a single-node cluster will always be overcommitted since any failure in that single node will

  • Issues when trying to add a single-node cluster under management in VMM

A few folks have been experiencing errors and long delays in adding a single-node (i.e. a 1 node cluster) cluster under management in Virtual Machine Manager. This issue stems from the fact that VMM has an overcommitted property for each cluster. By default, a single-node cluster will always be overcommitted since any failure in that single node will cause the entire cluster and its Virtual Machines to go down. Such a failure does not go well with the concept of high availability. A workaround for

A computer stops responding during shutdown if BitLocker is enabled on the system drive on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. • Troubleshooting IAG 2007 SP2 and ADFS setup

Integrating IAG with Active Directory Federation Services seems to be getting more popular and is something I see quite a number of support calls on. If you configure everything exactly as per the guidance below then ADFS/IAG integration will work perfectly. But if you miss a step, misconfigure something, or insert a typo then you will see failures and these can often be tricky to troubleshoot. I’ve seen a fair number of different problems with ADFS and IAG working together, so there will definitely

When external users try to download the file they receive the initial window with open or save file options as shown below: After clicking Save the following error message appears: The web server was listening on HTTP and an internal user connecting to the web server directly over HTTP was able to download this file.
