  • Virtuelle Maschinen offline aktualisieren

  • Summary of Bitlocker Discussions

Last week there was quite some discussion about “successful attacks” on Bitlocker. Those discussions are often quite interesting for me as they show sometimes that people are looking for one technical solution for all the problems. Bitlocker has a clear threat model it wants to protect you from. This is mainly the loss of your computer. If it is running and the attacker is admin – well Bitlocker cannot protect you. To quote a blog post of our Windows Security Team: Our discussions of Windows BitLocker

  • How to modify a system owned object

Hello, I had an interesting customer request recently that I thought I would share with you. Prior to an upgrade to 2003 they had an account which was used for Remote Desktop Users. On upgrading to 2003 this account became replaced by a System Owned Object with exactly the same name. So their question to me was how do we rename a System Owned account without getting the following error. "The attribute cannot be modified because it is owned by the system" Carry out the following steps. Warning:

  • Remove Personal metadata from Files to Protect Your Privacy

Metadata within a file can tell a lot about you. Cameras record data about when a picture was taken. Microsoft Office automatically adds author and company information to documents. And with user-created tags, you can add details that might be useful on a local copy but are unwise to disclose to the public. Here's how Windows 7 lets you remove personal metadata from files to protect your privacy. Follow our daily tips on: Twitter | Facebook | blog | Web | RSS

  • Microsoft Security Essentials vs. Kaspersky, Nod32, BitDefender, Symantec, McAfee

Believe it or not, but the recently introduced, free security solution from Microsoft manages to hold its own against fully-fledged, paid security suites from heavyweight players on the security market, at least when it comes down to generic detection and heuristic techniques. In fact, Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0, formerly codenamed Morro, fared better than the products from security companies that were fast to downplay the relevance of a free basic solution from the Redmond company. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft-Security-Essentials-vs-Kaspersky-Nod32-BitDefender-Symantec-McAfee-128482.shtml

Three guys got together over pints in February 2009 and talked about how one of the issues facing Technical Professionals today is keeping their systems patched and up to date. Over pints at D’Arcy McGee’s , Pierre Roman, Bruce Cowper and I decided we would try to help solve the issue of information overload
