Given that I spent a ridiculously long time trying to get an InfoPath form to interact with a spreadsheet published through Excel Services, I thought this was a suitable subject for a blog post. If I stop someone else feeling like they want to beat themselves to death with their own keyboard, I will consider it a job well done. Assume the following, much simplified, scenario. Step 1: A user fills out a field on an InfoPath form. Let’s call this Field_A. Step 2: InfoPath sends this value to an Excel

This article is about an error generated when running configuration wizard in WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007. The scenario is like this. The SharePoint environment was running with WSS 2.0 and tried to upgrade to WSS 3.0. The WSS 2.0 was installed with a default instance of SharePoint Database (Express /Embedded edition of SQL) and while upgrading the SQL instance got corrupted. But the SharePoint was still considering the timer service in progress . But looking at the Timer job status in Central administration

This week @ Microsoft Egypt we’ve been delivering Tech Week. While it’s not a brand new idea, it’s the first time we’re delivering something of this sort in Egypt. The concept is pretty simple. We have rooms with 2 parallel tracks with sessions on SharePoint, SQL, Exchange, Security, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Win7. And once people are done with these sessions, we have a lab with all of these technologies available so everyone can get a hands-on experience with the products and see how they can benefit

This article is about an error when you perform a back up operation from Central administration or using stsadm command. In my case , I was able to perform back up of individual web applications using Central administration / stsadm . The below given error message was generated and the backup operation was terminated automatically when I include SSP to back up. (eg:- full farm backup. ) “Stsadm –o backup –directory \\path –backupmethod full” command produces the same error when selecting full

MOSS 2007 came with a few out of the box workflows to do tasks which are common in a huge range of organisations. One of these was the approval workflow, provided out of the box because the majority of companies have an approval procedure of some form. This is a very easy to use workflow that can be run on any content type allowing someone to approve or reject a document for publication. The problem was that no two companies do business in exactly the same way. The out of the box approval workflow

With the SharePoint Conference this week, Microsoft has begun lifting the shroud of secrecy around the next version of SharePoint, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, due out in the first half of next year. In light of this release of information, I’m expecting to get asked more and more, “Why should we buy SharePoint now? Shouldn’t we just wait until the new version?” Good news! You can buy SharePoint now and get the new version. That’s what Software Assurance is for. Software Assurance is a licensing

Recently we had come across a issue where the solution package gets deployed successfully , but while checking the central administration site->operations->solution management the deployment status shows “Not deployed” . The biggest problem with this scenario is you may not be able to activate feature related to this solution or you may not be able to access the pages which are directly related to this solution. The solution management will look like the below picture The main reason behind

I’d like to share an analogy for SharePoint. Just imagine you’ve bought a new house. That house is SharePoint. The chances are, you will have had some help in the process from the likes of solicitors, estate agents, removals companies and so on. Those guys are the SharePoint partners. Their job is to help you find the house and get settled in. And maybe that’s it. Maybe the house is exactly what you need. After all, SharePoint out of the box does provide a lot of features that can be used to solve

I was recently working on a case where the end users are unable to login to FBA site hitting the request on one of the WFEs in the farm. When credentials are provided , it keeps prompting for the credentials again and no error message is not displayed on the form . When hitting on another server in the same farm , the users are able to login to the site successfully with the username and password. The ULS log did not help much , did not have much clue to work on. Later found an information from
