  • Ping tool and useful info on BPOS networking and bandwidth

There is a document on microsoft.com/downloads called Guidance for Microsoft Online Services Multinational Customers is not what it seems. You don't have to be a multinational to be interested in the details such as latency stats between you and the BPOS data center. In addition, there is an online ping tool that will tell you your latency between the browser and any of our data centers and provides guiance for whats acceptable. Add this to your list of BPOS technical reference materials http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=c4ec4bbe-5979-4cf2-bac5-d86e1baada2

  • Upgrading to Windows Phone 6.5

I have a T-Mobile Compact V (also known as an HTC Touch Diamond2) running Windows Mobile 6.1 and I thought I would share a few posts on the move to 6.5. As soon as 6.5 was released – or a couple of days later at any rate – I contacted T-Mobile and was told by Customer Services that an upgrade was available and I should ring their Support Desk on another phone and they could upgrade me. This I did and was told an upgrade would invalidate the warranty. This is a rebuild, not an upgrade So now read

  • Farewell to AskPerf

Happy Friday AskPerf! I'm sure you've already surmised by the title of the post that today's topic is a somewhat bittersweet one. XE3E9MT8HW5V It is said that all good things must come to an end. In that same vein, the one constant about working at Microsoft is that change is inevitable. Over the last three (well, almost three!) years, it has been my privilege and honor to administer and write content for the AskPerf blog. I have had a tremendous amount of fun doing it, and I’ve learned a great deal.

  • Ten Tips and Tricks for Server Baselines

Happy Friday AskPerf! One of our Technical Account Managers pinged me a few weeks ago and asked if I could put together something on how to do a server baseline. After thinking about how best to do this for a while, I realized that trying to create a one-stop shop for server performance baselines goes well beyond a blog post and into the realms of entire books! But, that doesn’t mean that we don’t have some good tips for you … So, to start with – what exactly is a baseline? Simply put, a baseline

  • Windows 7 is coming. See Y’All in Two Weeks

There’s a little over a month to go until Windows 7 hits store shelves.  We’re going to be taking a short hiatus here on AskPerf while we get our Launch Series content ready.  On October 1st, we’ll roll out our first post of the series – and then expect one post a day through October 21st.  We have a lot of ground to cover, so rest assured, we will have our noses to the grindstone for the next month … While we’re working on our content, if you have any topics you’d like to see on AskPerf,

  • Could be a First for Microsoft! Intneral Technical Wiki now Pushed to Quickstartonlineservices.com.

Internally, the Technical Product Management team had a Wiki they were using to keep track of all kind of issues. FAQs that were being asked all the time about things like public folders, mail enabled lists, how to work with proxy servers, when is feature "X" coming , blah blah blah. The cool thing about this particular wiki is that it is a living resource that is actively updated, and used to drive meeting agendas, workflows, feature priorities, and other details. In other words, it's an important
