System Center Partner Announcements in Barcelona

Just wanted to highlight a few partner announcements I’ve heard and seen at the show today in Barcelona.

App-V (formerly SoftGrid) has great momentum and announced several new great partners who have developed business value add-ons for this new release.

I talked to Scott Farrand, VP of ESS Software from HP last week and today saw them demoing their new management pack with PRO features at TechEd EMEA this week. This is a great new technology allows for flexible and comprehensive management across physical and virtual servers.  HP will also be releasing an updated catalog for Configuration Manager 2007 to be able to patch and deploy new drivers for their ProLiant hardware platform. Check out our video together, which we shot just before leaving for the event:

And I’ve just seen the great announcement that Fujitsu-Siemens Computers and Microsoft have signed an agreement to sell a new Small Medium Business solution, to manage server and client computers using System Center Essentials 2007 and our newly released Virtual Machine Manager 2008. Availability details will be provided shortly.

Is the $869 price for a standalone SCVMM 2008 license inclusive of SA?

In an August blog post you indicated a price of $1304 with 2 years SA, however the SCVMM website (http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/virtualmachinemanager/en/us/pricing-licensing.aspx) now shows $860 for the same SCVMM package. Is it because it does not include SA?

Thanks

The $869 price for a standalone System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 Enterprise server management license does not include Software Assurance (SA). The price quoted in the August blog entry includes the license and two years of SA.

Diane,

is the 2 years SA mandatory for SCVMM 2008 stand alone like it is for SMSE?

Thanks

SA is not mandatory for the System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 Enterprise server management license. SA is required for the SMSE but the term of the SA will vary by organization.
