Cool WSUS troubleshooting tools and script examples

You're probably already well aware of Microsoft's CodePlex open source project hosting website but in case you're not, it's home to a ton of great tools and scripts including a virtual salad of awesome tools for managing and troubleshooting WSUS.  We've mentioned some of the tool such as AUdbgTrace in previous posts but there are a bunch of others that any good WSUS admin will want to keep in his or her bag of tricks.  Some of the tools include:

WSUS MPSReports - a reporting tool that will collect important troubleshooting information on your system's configuration.

AUdbgTrace.exe - A tool to troubleshoot Network, AU, BITS and WinHTTP related detection or connectivity issues

IEReg.bat - A tool to manually re-register the various WSUS related DLLs

IE_AsSystem.exe - Launches IE under the Local System account to test connectivity and authentication issues.

Scripts - Search, Download, Install - Sample VBS scripts used for Searching, Downloading, and Installing Updates

Proxycfg.exe - A tool to help configure proxy settings

BitsAdmin.exe - A tool used to view and set the status of the BITS jobs currently in the queue.

Setuss.exe - Configures WSUS 3.0 Server to be a replica or downstream server (DSS)

SQLInjectionFinder.exe - Tool to help determine .asp pages targeted by SQL Injection attacks

WSUS Cleanup Tool - A tool to automate the cleanup process within WSUS.

The complete list of tools can be found here.

I should probably add that Microsoft does not control, review, revise, endorse or distribute the third party projects on the CodePlex site and as such these tools are not supported and we make no guarantees as to their suitability. Microsoft is hosting the CodePlex site solely as a web storage site as a service to the developer community.

Enjoy!
