All we need is a Teleporter/transporter to dramatically reduce global warming

As every geek/sci-fi fan knows there's always a place for a teleporter/transporter.

Note: Thanks to Gizmodo for the image

I'm luckly that I don't spend a great deal of time flying on business these days though I used to several years ago. I do enjoy experiencing different cultures and meeting interesting people though and have joked with friends many times that "if only we had a transporter we could avoid wasting time on trains planes and automobiles.

At the conference yesterday a large group of us discussed ways to reduce the environmental footprint/impact of information technology - in particular reducing power consumption of client machines, data centres and reducing the number of air miles flown.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing but after a few beers last night I realised that we should really have a team focussed on working with partners to get a teleporter/transporter up and running! We already have "communicators" and many other items that first saw the light of day on the TV - it's about time we put our heads together and sorted this out!

...I don't much fancy having my molecules scattered into oblivion though so finding beta testers could be tricky!
