Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2008 Standard and Premium editions released to manufacturing

Today Microsoft has released to manufacturing both Standard and Premium versions of Windows Small Business Server (SBS) 2008. SBS 2008 is part of the Windows Essential Server Solutions (WESS) family of products, which will be widely available and formally launched on November 12, 2008.

SBS 2008 is an integrated IT solution designed to help small companies protect vital business data, increase day-to-day productivity and present a more professional image to customers so they can grow their business.

Some main benefits include:

· Dramatically simplified setup and improved manageability with server and PC monitoring and remotely-accessible reports.

· Integration with Office Live Small Business for online marketing and commerce.

· SBS 2008 Premium Edition is an ideal platform for critical business applications, via SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 on a second hardware server

SBS 2008 Public Preview Now Available

On Wednesday Microsoft announced Public Preview availability of Windows Small Business Server 2008, part of the new Windows Essential Server Solutions product family. Customers and partners can now download and evaluate SBS 2008 Release Candidate 0. Due out later this year, SBS 2008 offers a range of new benefits to small business owners and the technology consultants that serve them. Windows Essential Business Server 2008 Release Candidate 0 was made available through Public Preview earlier this month. New features of SBS 2008 include:

· Greater security and data protection: Built-in anti-virus and anti-spam with 120-day subscriptions to Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server and Windows Live OneCare for Server will help small businesses protect data.

· Simple, easy online marketing presence: SBS 2008 integrates with Microsoft Office Live Small Business to simplify set up and management of professional web sites and private work spaces.

· Better productivity: A streamlined, customizable Remote Web Workplace, integration of the new SharePoint and support for the newest Windows mobile devices will help employees more effectively work remotely and collaborate.

· IT made easy: Deployment, setup and administration is dramatically simplified and improved. New single CALs make SBS 2008 licensing more flexible and cost-effective.

· Manageability: A streamlined administration console; monitoring across servers and client PCs; customizable, remotely-accessible reports.

Microsoft Announces Official Name for ‘Centro,’ Windows Essential Business Server; Product Details Revealed

Double H Ranch Receives Tech Upgrade

For the kids at Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne, N.Y., nothing is more important than the status of their health. Created to provide specialized camping and year-round support for children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses, the ranch is an opportunity to escape the daily reminders of their circumstances. But with more than 900 campers expected to attend the ranch’s week-long sessions, assuring their health is being properly monitored has been a challenge for the ranch. With that in mind, the ranch is using Microsoft’s Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 as a way to manage the task. Using funds obtained from grants and in-kind services, the ranch reached out to Microsoft and Sage Computer Associates, Inc., to install and use SBS 2003 R2 in Paul’s Body Shop, its medical clinic. With the new software, doctors will be able to better access medical records and other critical information about the campers.

Double H Ranch is part of the Hole in the Wall Camps Association, founded by actor Paul Newman as a place where children with serious illnesses can enjoy their childhood and partake in activities. The camps hosted more than 15,000 children last year.
