Microsoft Announces Business Ready Security for Enterprises

Today, the Identity and Security Business Group unveiled its Business Ready Security strategy and disclosed product and service updates, including the introduction of Forefront Online Security for Exchange, “Stirling” beta 2 availability and expansion of the Forefront brand. We are also announcing a broad group of companies supporting and extending the capabilities of Forefront “Stirling.”

As part of introducing Business Ready Security, Microsoft is highlighting customers who are betting on Microsoft’s security solutions. For instance, a company called Exostar is currently using Microsoft solutions to allow global aerospace companies to securely collaborate on complex, multi-enterprise projects. Exostar’s ForumPass solution uses Active Directory Federation Services and Forefront products to serve a growing community of 8500 users across 170 organizations. Exostar is a real world, here and now example of Business Ready Security.

Forefront "Stirling" Public Beta

Today at RSA, Microsoft announced the public beta of its next-generation Forefront security solution, codenamed “Stirling.”

Forefront Stirling is designed as an integrated security system that delivers comprehensive, coordinated protection, making it easier to control, access and manage security across an organization’s IT infrastructure.

Forefront Stirling combines a central management console for security configuration and enterprise-wide visibility with the next-generation Forefront products that span the client, server and network edge. These products include Forefront Client Security, Forefront Security for Exchange Server, Forefront Security for SharePoint and the next-generation of Microsoft ISA Server – Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG).

Acquisition Strengthens Anti-Malware Solutions

Today Microsoft Corp. announced it has acquired Maryland-based Komoku Inc., a provider of advanced rootkit security detection solutions. This acquisition is another example of Microsoft’s commitment to build a rich set of security expertise to create and bring to market security technologies and products to help protect consumers through large enterprise. With this acquisition, Microsoft expects to add Komoku’s functionality into upcoming versions of the Forefront line of enterprise security products and Windows Live OneCare, Microsoft’s all-in-one PC care solution.

Founded in 2004, Komoku is a privately held company that specializes in providing rootkit detection software, particularly for high security government agencies.

Exchange Server SP1 and Forefront Security for Exchange SP1 Released

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will be available to customers on Thursday, November 29th. Exchange Server 2007 SP1 features anticipated enhancements such as support for Windows Server 2008, better integration with Office Communications Server 2007 and improved mobile device security and management.

Additionally, the final release of Forefront Security for Exchange Server Service Pack 1 (SP1) will also be available here. Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP1 helps businesses protect their Exchange Server messaging environments from viruses, worms, and spam. It ships with and integrates multiple industry-leading antivirus engines to provide comprehensive, layered protection against the latest threats.

This announcement comes 1 year after Microsoft launched Exchange Server 2007. Since then, more than 3,000 companies representing more than 1,000,000 seats have begun the switch from rival messaging and voice mail platforms to Exchange Server.

More than 270,000 information workers tested the beta of Exchange Server 2007 SP1 as part of Microsoft’s Technology Adoption Program with more than 30,000 of those mailboxes running Windows Server 2008.
