I guess Windows 7 will not change any thing in this area.

Going forward from Vista, will Windows 7 allow a simpler method of integrating a service pack into the base OS image? With Windows service packs not even being cumulative any more, installing the RTM version (20 mins for Vista), then SP1 (at least half an hour-45 mins) and then SP2 takes quite a lot of time and a horrible experience as well. Has the servicing team changed the design so that Windows 7 SP1 when it arrives can be painlessly integrated into the base installation ISO to burn on to a new media?

You can integrate a service pack into the base OS image in Windows Vista, by installing the service pack in the running OS and then capturing the resulting image using tools in the Windows AIK.

You can find step-by-step instructions on how to do this in the deployment guide: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335037(WS.10).aspx#Scen4)
