Running &quot;netstat -o&quot;, TCPView, PortQry, all that nonsense...</p> <p>I knew I had connectivity because the VMWare host box was able to connect to the server just fine. It turned out to be a proxy issue. As soon as I set the proxy and turned on the 'Bypass proxy for local addresses', I could connect.</p> <p>Perhaps the various KB articles which witter on about DCOM permissions, NETWORK_SERVICE accounts etc might like to add this simple step as a first fix attempt!</p>
