As you may well be aware, one of the “best practices” for Sequencing an application is to have the application install itself during the

microsoft » Getting to the root of the 8.3 Root

PingBack from http://microsoft.whitewitty.info/?p=3045

Why you may ask.

Q. Why?

Some application that I have sequenced had a funny behaviour.

I installed the application to q:\rootdir.v01 and the application will be install to this directory but the installation setup will check on which local drive I have most available space and will create a folder in the root of this drive and place some files there, in my case it now look like this under the q: drive:

q:\rootdir.v01\

q:\somefolder\

And this will not work.

Then I changed the size of the q: drive on my sequencing station so it had less free space than the system drive and re-sequenced the application.

Now the setup program placed "somefolder" on the root of the c: drive and this will of course work.

So the conclusion is that make sure that you always have more free space on the q: than on your system drive when sequencing.
