Application Virtualization Dynamic Suite Composition Tool

The dynamic suite composition tool provides a GUI interface that makes it easier to configure packages to take advantage of the App-V 4.5 dynamic suiting feature.

For example, in the snapshot below I have pointed the tool to a directory which contains 3 packages. I have chosen Office 2007 as my Primary Package and selected my custom Excel plug-in as a mandatory dependency. Previously I had to go in an edit the XML file directly; I can now do all this with a few clicks, without having to learn the schema of the underlying XML files. This is cool, intuitive and gives me the same powerful capabilities DSC provides without worrying that I might incorrectly edit the XML. Once I choose “Save” the tool quickly outputs the appropriate files with the dependencies already created, all that remains is to publish the application! The tool also automatically creates backups of the files it updates and provides the ability to restore the virtual application packages to their original state.

Tomorrow we’ll talk about the App-V Cache Resizing Tool…

Enjoy!
