I have used this method to make a USB Flash drive with WinRE with much success. One of my favorite things to use it for is ghost32. In previous win9x/Dos variations of boot disks, we were limited to the 16-bit version of Ghost. Now that WinRE runs in 32-bit native, ghost32 is an option. The advantages to this are much (I mean MUCH) faster transfer times on local hard drives. I've gotten speeds as fast as 3GB/min on my SATA2 Raid configuration. This is compared to the 700MB/min with ghost 16-bit.

The other thing I found useful is the capability of running Firefox in WinRE. Just copy the firefox directory from your Program Files folder to the WinRE drive and run "startnet.cmd" in the command prompt in WinRE. Assuming you've correctly added your network drivers (or they're included) to WinRE as per the instructions.

So there you go. More things you can do with WinRE.

Sorry for the long post.

re: How To Create a Bootable DVD for Windows Vista (or any Windows for that matter)

Great feedback, blackknight. I really appreciate your insight, and I'll be sure to try this next week when I have some spare time. I love the recommendations on using third party tools with WinRE, and it's great to see that it is being successfully used with third party tools like ghost32 and Firefox. Great stuff!

re: How To Create a Bootable DVD for Windows Vista (or any Windows for that matter)

There is probably an obvious legal issue that I'm missing but why are these bootable dvds not downloadable as Iso's or at least out there on ebay?

http://keznews.com/26260=how_to_create_a_bootable_dvd_for_windows_vista_(or_any_windows_for_that_matter)
