Una domanda che spesso mi viene posta riguardante i nuovi Microsoft Online Services è relativa alle garanzie che vengono fornite sui dati dei clienti…
Ecco alcune delle risposte.
D. In che modo Microsoft può garantire la protezione dei miei dati?
R. Le aziende devono utilizzare una combinazione di tecnologia e processi per proteggere il proprio ambiente di messaggistica e collaborazione da minacce per la protezione interne ed esterne. Tali minacce utilizzano una serie di vettori di attacco che richiedono l'adozione di molteplici livelli di protezione. Tra l'altro, poiché le minacce sono in costante evoluzione nel tentativo di scoprire i punti deboli nei vecchi sistemi di difesa, è necessario ricorrere a una combinazione di tecnologie. L'uso congiunto di molteplici livelli di controlli di protezione e di più tecnologie costituisce la strategia di difesa in profondità di Microsoft. Per semplificare la gestione della protezione e potenziare le prestazioni, Microsoft consiglia anche l'integrazione della soluzione nell'infrastruttura aziendale. Microsoft prende in considerazione la protezione da tre punti di vista: protezione dei dati (filtro antivirus/antispam in-the-cloud), accesso ai dati protetto (HTTPS - crittografia a 128 bit) e centri dati protetti.
D. I servizi Business Productivity Online Standard Suite sono conformi alla normativa Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)?
R. La versione Dedicated di Business Productivity Online Standard Suite soddisfa le esigenze di conformità alla normativa Sarbanes-Oxley rafforzando i suoi servizi con una serie completa di controlli in linea con i requisiti SOX. La configurazione e l'efficacia di questi controlli vengono valutate costantemente sia dal nostro personale interno che da revisori esterni e vengono inoltre sottoposte a un controllo SAS 70 Type II indipendente su base annuale.
La versione Standard di Business Productivity Online Standard Suite avrà bisogno di un controllo SAS 70 Type II che attesti l'efficacia dei controllo interni condotti da Microsoft. I nostri centri dati degli Stati Uniti mantengono la certificazione SAS 70 Type II per i controlli fisici di ogni di ogni struttura, mentre i servizi (Live Meeting, EHS, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online e Office Communications Online) non mantengono tale certificazione. Live Meeting mantiene sia la certificazione CyberTrust Service Provider Certification che CyberTrust Application Certification, che supera i requisiti di controllo per SOX. È previsto che l'implementazione di Business Productivity Online Standard Suite Standard si sottoponga ai test per ottenere la certificazione CyberTrust entro due mesi.
D. Qual è l'atteggiamento di Microsoft rispetto alla privacy dei dati e all'EU Safe Harbor Framework?
R. Tutti i servizi Microsoft Online Services consentono ai clienti di soddisfare, pressoché in ogni situazione, la conformità inerente la privacy, in base ai requisiti giurisdizionali e di settore.
Ciascuno di questi servizi è stato ideato per il rispetto degli standard di privacy interni di Microsoft, sulla base di quanto descritto nel documento "Linee guida per la tutela della privacy nello sviluppo di prodotti e servizi software" pubblicato da Microsoft.
Questo insieme di standard consente di garantire che le protezioni dei dati e della privacy siano sistematicamente incluse nello sviluppo e nella distribuzione di quasi tutti i prodotti e servizi Microsoft. You can manage servers in a farm to improve the site performance and to manage services efficiently by distributing them across the servers. There are several different kinds of servers you can deploy depending on your needs. These include:
· Web servers Web servers in a server farm environment contain files and settings required to respond to user requests for Web pages. You can install additional Web servers to help with load balancing of processing and communications tasks during peak demand, and to provide needed redundancy if there is an equipment failure.
· Application servers Application servers can be used to run many specialized application processes such as indexing, search, and Excel Services in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Additional application servers can help with load balancing and failover protection. Individual servers can be dedicated to specific applications such as indexing or search. In general, Web applications are load balanced dynamically across all unassigned application servers by Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
· Index server The index server manages the crawling and indexing of Office SharePoint Server content and maintains the index file. The index service works with the query service to let you search Office SharePoint Server content. Every Office SharePoint Server 2007 deployment must have at least one index server. Additional index servers may be necessary as the deployment grows. There can only be one index server per server farm.
· Query servers The query service works with the indexing service to let users search Office SharePoint Server content. Query services can be concentrated in one or more dedicated query servers or distributed across all of the Web servers. By using a dedicated query server, you can free the Web servers to service user requests. In most cases, a dedicated query server is the more robust solution and is called for if user demand for other resources is increasing while the number of content resources remains relatively constant.
If necessary, the indexing service and the query service can be combined on the same server. Combining the two services can save on hardware costs, but maintaining the two services on separate servers provides more flexibility and ability to cope with increasing demand. Also, if you want high availability, you should keep the indexing service and the query service on different servers.
· Database servers Database servers store all of the Office SharePoint Server 2007 configuration and content data. As the Office SharePoint Server 2007 deployment grows, the databases grow. The three main factors driving the need for additional database servers are storage capacity, load balancing, and failover capability.

Roles that can be redundant
These application server roles can be deployed to multiple servers. The code that is deployed to each server is identical and the application server roles do not store any data. In other words, each instance of these server roles remains identical. If one of the server computers fails, no saved data is lost. The Web servers automatically load balance requests to these server roles across the available application server computers.
The following application server roles can be deployed redundantly:
· Query. The query role can be deployed to any number of application server computers or it can be deployed across Web servers. There is one limitation, however. If the query role is deployed to the same server that hosts the index role, the query role should not be deployed to any other server computers. This is because the index role recognizes that the query role is on the same server and, consequently, does not attempt to propagate the index. In some scenarios, you can optimize the throughput of the server farm by deploying the query role across the Web servers, even if you have introduced a middle tier for dedicated application servers. This is because the query role caches the content that it serves, making it readily available for subsequent requests. The query role is unique in this sense.
· Excel Calculation Services. The Excel Calculation Services role performs Excel calculations on Excel workbooks that are stored in the content databases. This application server role is unique in that it stores session-state information throughout the duration of a user session. When a user opens a workbook, the Web server role continues to route the user requests to the same Excel Calculation Services application server until the workbook is closed and the user finishes the session. The Excel Calculation Services role can be a resource-intensive role. In some scenarios, you can optimize the performance of the farm by deploying this role across all Web servers.

Il tutto può essere comunque riassunto così:
Install MOSS and join the server to the existing farm
- Install using the MOSS installation account
- Start MOSS Setup, enter your license key and accept the license agreement
- Select Advanced and Complete install
- Run the SharePoint Product and Technologies Configuration Wizard
- Connect to an existing farm
- Enter the MOSS database server end click Retrieve Database Names. The Database Name and Username fields are automatically populated. Enter the password and click Next
- In Advanced Setting make sure that this server will not host the Central Administration site and click Next
- That’s it. The new server is now member of the farm. Use Central Administration to configure it for the purpose it is intended (Web Front-end, indexing etc)

L’installazione di Microsoft Visual Studio sullo stesso server dove risiede Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 è comunque consigliata unicamente sui server di sviluppo e non di produzione.
Nell’esempio riportato viene consigliato inoltre di installare Moss 2007, Visual Studio e Office in un ambiente virtuale in esecuzione sul client da cui si intende sviluppare.
