Ouch. I originally just thought that this was a stupid thing for anyone to say in such an important position, based solely on the fact that it's a false statement - or at the very least, is a statement of belief, rather than one of facts supported by evidence.
I hadn't realised immediately that this implies that Trend Micro is stating that they believe that any benefit of Closed Source is worth the reduction in security that they believe their customers will naturally endure.
Other than "we don't want people creating copies and distributing them for free" (aka "we want to make money"), I see no other reason to stay with Closed Source if you believe Open Source to be technically superior.
Wow.
