So, according to these comparisons, the vista security flaws are not counted because they are not acknowledge by microsoft?? Thats interesting, because it seems like they would still be there... hmm... You also compare to a version of ubuntu that offers long term support, does vista offer long term support? Seems to me that windows usually only offers a few years after it has been released, or until the next version.. Same as the typical ubuntu linux does... you should be comparing it to the latest release, ex: ubu 7.10 vs vista sp1 because quite honestly the ubunto os upgrades its core smoother than windows installs a service pack..

New report released.. Jeff Jones finds Windows Millenium to be more secure than Vista and is not a microsoft puppet..

I have read your post and I found it very interesting and with an indoubtly scientific methodology approach.

But what do you think about the low efficiency of VISTA OS? I have the SP1 RC on Windows VISTA Home Premium but it is always slow!

I think this is a security problem too. This aspect impacts on availability of the OS and the informations in it.

What do you think on?

I did a more complete analysis and in depth analysis on year 2007 data including Windows Vista, Windows XP, Ubuntu, RedHat and MacOS X as a follow up to Jeff's full blown year 2007 vulnerability report.

However, as Jeff admits, this kind of first year analysis may be good to evaluate the security practices and product development methodologies of a vendor more than measure the security of an Operating system. This paper expands on his findings while following a similar structure used in Jeff’s report presenting a deeper level of analysis and comparison of the modern workstation Operating Systems using the entire 2007 vulnerability and days of risk data which would more accurately reflect the “present security state” of these different Operating Systems.

The results of my analysis based on the Vulnerability Count Metric and Days of Risk suggest that Windows Vista is the most secure Operating System when compared to the other leading Desktop Operating Systems for the year 2007 based on its lower vulnerability profile.

With the vulnerability and risk data available, I also wanted to tackle the topic of Browser security. The analysis reveals that Firefox 2.x on Ubuntu platform was the most secure browser for the year 2007 in terms of the lowest Days of Risk and vulnerability profile.

nobody here seems to have tried Linux (for user-friendliness-> fedora/opensuse/ubuntu) while mentioning about modernness, security and speed. Definitely, even the beta versions of any of the above are stabler, aesthetically pleasing and secure compared to either vista or xp.

I did not mention mac, because it is illegal to install it under PC platform. Mac is also better than any windows version, if run in a mac computer. I have tried Windows, Mac as well as Linux for 6 months each before commenting here.

The review here has been confined to comparison between Windows Vista and xp.
