We have received a few reports of hotfix 948110 causing issues with SharePoint (Companyweb) on SBS 2003.

I am running SBS std edition. My ERRORLOG says

I'm using the desktop Engine. So from what I can tell this problem will not hit me and it's ok to go and apply 948110.

My issue seems to be a variation of this one.

The original is the Desktop Engine, however the upgrade is attempted:

2008-06-15 12:26:56.65 server Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 (Intel X86)

Update Tries to install kb948110 with this error:

Update Name: Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB948110)

Update Type: Security Updates

Error Date: 7/17/2008 6:41:54 PM

Error Description: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB948110).

The fix is still on queue.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on the server, but didn't upgrade any of the SBS instances to use SQL Server 2005.

SHAREPOINT

WSUS

SBSMONITORING

all use SQL Server at revision: 8.0.2039

When I installed the fix manually, a text box appears with the message:

This machine does not have a product that matches this installation package.

The package was installed. IIS went down. I uninstalled the package and rebooted the machine. We're up now. However, the upgrade is still pending.

Experiencing the same problem with company web, like Spencer, the before and after are the Desktop Engine. There was never an attempt to upgrade to a newer version of SQL. The update tried to install, but it never does. The update just keeps re-appearing. Any pointers are appreciated.

Hi all,

I had this same issue after installing the update on SBS2003 server. The thought of re-installing SQL did not appeal to me. I fixed it by doing the following:

1) Rename C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT\Binn to Binn.old

2) Restore C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT\Binn from a backup. We dont back up program files so I used the Binn foder from another SQL instance.

3) Start the MSSQL$SHAREPOINT services.

Hope this helps someone else

how about telling us which SBS2003 CD to insert and which executable to run to do this "upgrade to SQL Server 2000"?

I cannot find the error files at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$Sharepoint\Log\errorlog ... under Program Files I find "Microsoft Windows Small Business Server", and after that - no logs. And my CompanyWeb is still down. Any suggestions?

Damn! I fall into this buggy hotfix! My best solution: migrate sharepoint from sql2000 to sqlserver 2005 express. Problem solved!

when I start sql manager it shows sql server 2005.. I am not a sql person, just been chucked in at the deepend.

So if sql manager is showing 2005 & log is showing 2000, do I try this fix? will i just make things worse..

I followed Alberto's solution to solve this problem - migrating to sqlserver2005 express (which is a free upgrade).

Hi,

I did what Lucas advised, copied the Bin folder from another working instance. That seemed to fix the problem. Companyweb is working again now. Thanks :)
