&lt;p&gt;They are Server 2003 SBS with XP Pro clients on peer to peer networks.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In a number of cases it makes the whole system run very slowly.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The other problem is that files are being closed on the server while they are being accessed from the client.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Uninstalling KB 948496 fixes the problems!&lt;/p&gt;
