Error When Trying To Approve Silverlight 1.0 Within Update Services

[Today's post comes to us courtesy of Chris Puckett]

When you try to approve the Microsoft Silverlight 1.0 (KB946609) feature pack from the Update Services->Waiting For Review node in the Small Business Server Management console, you may see the following error:

clip_image001

You can safely click Continue and proceed with the approval of the Silverlight Feature Pack.

The reason behind the error is that the update package metadata contains 2 URLs and only 1 KB article referenced. The SBS R2 code actually catches this situation and throws the error above.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Sad, another example of Microsofts poor QA, failure to follow thier own standards ( you have the URL/KB checking in there for a reason, right? ) and trying to push products not relevent to the installed products, which is what WSUS is for, right? Well at least this did not kill WSUS like:

http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/11/12/wsus-2-0-and-3-0-errors-on-small-business-server.aspx

or this similiar issue,

http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/03/19/error-when-trying-to-approve-windows-2003-sp2-within-update-services.aspx

Learn from your mistakes don't just keep repeating them....please

Bizarre.  Why would anyone think that the KB count and URL count had to match?  Does the content specification require that all links have to point to KB articles?
