IT Expo East Response Point Keynote

John Frederiksen, Response Point General Manager, delivered the keynote address this morning @ IT Expo East. He spoke on Microsoft’s commitment to innovation; continued commitment to the telephony industry; and doing business with the SMB space during tough economic times. Two Microsoft videos: a future look at the banking industry 5 – 10 years out, and a current look at a SMB firm based on Robby Gordon’s NASCAR team, were shown. Look for the keynote to be up on the TMCnet portal in two weeks or so where you will be able to stream it.

Today at IT Expo East 2009, we announced the immediate release of our latest upgrade, Response Point Service Pack 2 (SP2) for our small business VoIP-enabled phone solution. The product is available starting today as a free download at http://www.microsoft.com/responsepoint.

Responding to customer and partner feedback –and quickly implementing those suggestions—is the main priority for the Response Point team. Coming just seven months after the previous upgrade, the new SP2 release adds many important enhancements including: improved communication options through support for intercom and paging capabilities; support for analog phones; and greater deployment flexibility via new support for VPN, multi-subnets and additional trunk devices.

As a recipient of InfoWorld’s “2009 Technology of the Year Award,” we’ll continue to provide small businesses with a cost effective phone system that is easy to use and manage, offering the ability to grow and evolve with their needs.

Going to CES?

The Response Point team doesn't have an official booth or anything at CES (we're saving our powder for ITExpo in Miami in February!) One or two of our bizdev members might drop by the show, like we did last year, but the CES focus will be with our partners, like Packet8, who will have a large booth. D-Link will be there too.

How about you? If any other RP partners, customers, or enthusiasts, will be there, please let us know. Maybe we can get together?

Join us on Friday, October 17th at 9:00-10:00am PST for "Microsoft Response Point SP1: What is it? Is it good for my customers? Is it good for me, a MS VAR?" Here's the description:

In this 5W50 segment we’ll take a look at Microsoft Response Point’s recent SP1 release with members of the Response Point team, a small team that was spun out from Microsoft Research last year as an Incubation business. First, we’ll focus on a review of the SP1 offering as it extends Response Point with SIP Trunking capabilities, refreshed Admin and Client modules, and Call reporting functions to name just a few new features. Then, and more importantly, we will discuss and show how Response Point benefits the small business customer. Response Point delivers improved communications and collaboration capabilities for your clients. It makes day-to-day business communication easier for them and your client’s may save money, too. We’ll conclude with a discussion on the benefits Response Point affords Microsoft VARs focused on the SMB space. We will breakdown Response Point’s ‘Revenue Opportunity Chain’ for VARs and discuss the opportunities around each ‘Revenue Link’ such as network assessments, integrations with Outlook or SBS, or Data/Voice provisioning via SIP Trunking.

Response Point Town Hall Meeting Oct 30th

The Microsoft Response Point Marketing and Development teams are hosting a question and answer webcast for any and all partners who are interested in Response Point and are currently selling Response Point. With recent announcements on new SIP Trunking providers as well as new peripheral partners for T1 support and conference phone support, the solution opportunity for partners and Response Point expands. Additionally, our go to market plans for the year focus on demand gen activities with Partners being an important cog in these planned campaigns.

Microsoft will spend a few minutes updating partners on what is currently going on with Response Point and will open up the floor for marketing and technical questions. This is a great chance to find out what the product and opportunity are and get some straight answers from the team who is building the product.

First morning at SMBNation

In spite of the rainy Seattle Saturday weather, we have a great turnout here this morning at SMBNation: lots of show attendees now at our booth, plus about half a dozen Response Point team members. We have several cool demos set up now, including a very high quality speakerphone from Clearone.

Harry Brelsford himself dropped by to say hi just before setup. We hope you’ll come too!

Wow, thanks for the fantastic crowd that showed up at SMBNation last night. In addition to many of the regular RP fans, we were happy to see so many new faces of people who weren’t yet familiar with all things Response Point. After a few opening remarks from our general manager, XD Huang, we turned it over to the audience for questions and it was non-stop: you guys aren’t shy!

We covered a range of questions, from the basic (“Does RP support SIP Trunking?” answer: of course) to roadmap questions (“How long till feature X?” answer: no word yet) to business questions about how to sell. We told people that the three biggest new feature areas we are looking at are: (1) remote extensions, (2) key system functionality, and (3) more. We want you to ask your questions too!
