Apparently the hypervisor hardware is not active on my Dell Precision 490. I'm guessing I need a newer version of the bios. But maybe I just need to enable it??

May I ask what version of bios you have? My version is Dell Inc., A06, 8/20/2007.

To answer my own question -- needed to enable virtualization in the BIOS.

BIOS->System Setup->Performance->Virtualization

also checked that No-Execute was enabled

BIOS->System Setup->Security->Execute Disable
